Where did all the Winchester brass go

I've not been very happy with the quality of the last couple of lots of Lapua brass I've bought so I was thinking of switching to Winchester.
There's none to be had in 308 or 223 anywhere or just about any other caliber for that matter.

With 99.9% of all competition shooters claiming they use Lapua brass you would think there would be Winchester brass sitting on the shelves collecting dust.

It's a conspiracy!!! I think Lapua is buying up all the brass so we have to buy theirs at twice the price. ;) :o

Perhaps they are buying all of it up to melt down so as to make more! There is a shop in town here who seems to have a fair amount of Winchester brass - $30/50. Gouges a tad but does have brass, powder, primers to some extent.

If they were making it 24/7 you would think that at least some would show up at powder valley or where ever.We can think up all the theorys we want but that is all we can do as winchester or the holding company hasnt made a statement either way.

Sure glad I "snarfed" up all the Win brass that the "non-reloaders" left behind at our local range.

Nothing like having a 700=800 piece "reserve" 8)

As for Lapua being "twice as expensive"??? A bag of 50 winchester at $30-$35 (local prices) versus a box of 100 Lapua for $74 (local price)? Sounds like almost a "push". At those prices I'd go with the Lapua.

FWIW, I don't think we'll ever see the "$17 bags of winchester (50 pc) again. They went the way of he $0.97 per tray primers.

I'm not buying that conspiracy stuff. but think what you want. What I do know is that last year, California set an all time high in the number of firearms sold and registered in California. And we're in a state run by the lefties and have been having to register any firearm, short of a pellet gun, for a very long time. And I regularly go in and out of various stores that sell firearms and components, and have noted that I just don't see as much .223 and .308 brass of any makes nearly as much as in years past. And when I asked various store personal where all their .223 and .308 brass is, they have told me it is sold almost as fast as they put it on the rack. Bottom line, it appears that there are more people buying this stuff up and all that might be the result of the advent of the greatest weapon salesman of all time.....you guessed it, the IDIOT in the White House!

Happy shootin folks.

I don't know the reasons but I've been on notification from Midway since the early part of last yr. The last WW 308 brass I saw was about 12 months ago when a backorder for WW 308s came in from Midway. I had not seen any WW brass at midway in almost a yr when I placed that order in Oct or so of 2012. I had forgotten that the order was even in. Then 3 weeks after I bought about 300 new from someone here 500 showed up on my door.

Last time I was buying WW it was much cheaper than Lapua if you purchased it in lots of 500 or 1000 I don't remember which, and that's how I usually get the stuff. Buying it in quantities less than that then I agree Lapua is comparably priced.
