One of our shipyard customers had this 150 ton Link-Belt Crawler go under water during Hurricane Ike some 15 years ago. They tried to get it to higher ground, but the water rose too fast. It has been sitting there ever since.

Every image.jpgtime I see it, I wonder how much time will pass until Mother Nature reclaims it.

”Hey, we aren’t parking this thing here. We are abandoning it”.

Huh. I'm assuming it's every bit as "messy" inside when flooded as a modern vehicle can be ... only worse. It'd be interesting to know what the refurbished-guts pricing on an overhaul would be, on a little crane like that.

New engine, electrics, electronics, wiring, wiring contacts, switches, controls, cab instruments, hauling to/from the refurb yard, the labor to overhaul it, ... Engine's only ~$20K retail, but I imagine going through everything else could easily double it.

My dad just junked an old ford tempo from my uncles estate and the scrapyard hauled it 30 miles and gave him a check for $200. I am thinking the scrappers will claim it before nature does.
