When resizing with bushing dies

should I re-size the entire length of the neck about .238? Or do what Ive been doing and just re-size as deep as the bullet is being seated? for instance I have been seating a .224 bullet .210 into the neck so I have been setting the bushing to only re-size .210 of the neck length. Is this OK?

If you are using a Redding bushing die, you can NOT size the whole neck.

When using Redding I use it to its full extent.

On my Redding type s if I set the bushing with .003 of clearance per instructions it re sizes the neck all the way to the tapper/shoulder Isn't that the whole neck?. If I set it with more clearance it re sizes the amount of neck I wish. What am I not understanding? Please explain.

Reddings S-dies don't physically touch the whole neck...they are set up this way. Even when bottomed out they will not size the whole neck.

The Wilson bushings are the same way, they do not size the entire neck.
The only way to set these dies for more clearance is to use a different bushing, and they will also only size part of the neck. The way those dies are made will not allow them to size clear to the neck shoulder junction like a regular die will.......

We've been through the "can't size the whole neck with a bushing die" deal before:

I think what dgc940 really wants to know is if there's a reason to size more of the neck than the length the bullet contacts.

My personal opinion is there's a valid reson not to size more than bullet length. The portion of the neck that isn't sized gets to be real close to chamber neck diameter and helps, at least to some degree, to center the bullet. If the chamber is significantly larger than sizer bushing you ammo will look a little funny with the step in the neck but I think it works better.

Thats exactaly what I wanted to know thanks.

The short answer is yes there is a way.

The long answer it takes a Neil Jones custom die with a shoulder bump bushing that goes all the way down the neck and bumps the shoulder.

They are custom made for your chamber based on 3 pieces of brass fired in your chamber. Cost is normally around $175 for FL and shoulder bump bushing
