when full length resizing is just not enough

I'm a slow learner at times. Put it down to age...

Reloading some 6mmSLR, I was getting nowhere with shoulder bump. Came out of the die exactly the same as it went in. Full length Whidden bushing die. AMP aanealer.

Just make sure that the decapping rod isn't contacting the bottom of the brass. duh!

As @243winxb said, get a go-gauge. Then use aluminum foil on the base end with a smidge of paste to find rifle headspace (reg foil is about .0004 - .0006” and ” and heavy foil is right at .0008”). Then use a comparator to measure the go-gauge (with foil on base end) and compare to your case base-to-shoulder datum of a sized case. This will tell you how much to trim the SH.

If you don’t have tools to trim the SH then send the die back to the manufacturer and have them trim the bottom.

I chucked my shell holder in my lathe and got it running true. I turned 0.010 off the top and got my shoulder bump without cam over. My chamber is about 0.0005 less than the go gauge. Maybe just 0 but the bolt won’t just fall It takes just a bump to close. I think it’s perfect.

You could just slip a feeler gauge(0.002,0.003,0.004) under the brass in the shell holder, size, see how close you are. Don't forget to gut the die before using the feeler gauge trick.
