Wheelers Fire Lap kit

I ve used Tubbs Final Finish kits on numerous production barreled rifles over the years with great results.

Anyway getting an inexpensive Mossberg Patriot 7-08 and ordered a Wheelers Fire Lap kit to attempt doing my own bullets. It comes with 220, 320 and 600 grit compounds.

Anyone have any experiences doing their own bullets? Grit recommendations, etc?

With the Tubbs bullets I typically did 2-3 grit #2 bullets, shot 5 of the #3 and usually 5-7 of the #4 and #5 grits. Would thoroughly clean between each group and always loaded a starting charge of the fastest burning powder listed for the cartridge/bullet weight I was using per Tubbs recommendation. Always seen 1/4 moa or so accuracy improvement and more importantly the barrels after treatment cleaned up WAY easier and showed much less coppering.

So not knowing what compound is used on each of Tubbs 5 stages looking for knowledge on that and also knowledge and experiences with Wheelers kit and their 3 compounds.

Appreciate hearing others actual experiences and findings.
(Note, I realize that doing the fire lapping will extend the rifles throat but with conservative use of the number and grits of firelapping it can be minimized. Have never used this method on a custom barrel and personally wouldn’t but production barrels absolutely!)

Thx in advance for experiences.

I used a fire lapping kit a few years ago, don’t remember the brand, if I remember correctly it came with two machined bars, put the grit on one then used the other bar to roll the bullets in the grit. As I remember it was fairly easy. I cleaned up an old 670 Winchester chambered in .243
