Wheel guns... opinions?

Own a few S&W's and sold or gave away a few. My wife had a 19 4", I gave it to my Dad when his 6" model 10 was stolen that I bought him for Father's Day back in the mid 70's. She replaced it with a 4" 66. I like that 617, may have to go handle one.

Can't go wrong with a S&W from the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder period. All the better if it is a 5 screw flat latch.

+2 on the Dan Wessons. Wish I'd bought a bunch back when no one cared and they were a few hundred dollars.

When I go the rifle range, I like to also bring a pistol. Mostly I shoot revolvers, as I am to old and lazy to pick up my brass for reloading. Have both Colt and S&W and enjoy each of them, and don't want to do a Ford-Chevy debate. Most of my handloads are cast bullets (95%), loaded for accuracy rather than power. Will occasionally shoot a semi auto and go on a brass hunt. My vanity precludes me from mentioning that I may be to fat to comfortably pick up my brass. Sorry for the micro aggression in my last sentence.

I have shot the 686 and a 70" Python side by side. with full .357 magnum loads, the 686 felt better in my hand. lighter recoil than the Python.
now to .38 wadcutter. Python outshined the 686 in Accuracy!

S&W are my favorites but did buy a Colt King Cobra recently. Have not shot that one yet

Looks like ill be getting one or two new revolvers sometime soon. Im a s&w lover.

617- 22lr

686, 686+, 686 competitor/performance center are the three im looking at. 6 inch barrel..

OR colt python.. I got an itch for one, fairly similar frame as a 686.

I just need to put my hands on em all..
I got a python and a 686. The 686 is plenty accurate for me so I don’t shoot the python much because of its value. Got some other caliber Smiths to. As you see from my other posts I’ve converted to being a wheel gun guy. Don’t think I’ll be buying a 22lr revolver though. That’s semiauto territory for me.

I am a big fan of S&W revolvers. Fits into your hand like well-worn slippers, great triggers, and very accurate. They are the epitome of quality and functionality, and have been for over 100 years. Not many gun manufacturers can claim this level of consistently high quality products.

I especially like the .41 magnum. I find it to be the best balance of power and shootability.

It'll shoot .41 Special loads, too, if your wrist needs a rest.

+1 on the .41 mags. It amazes me how even w/full power loads the are so much more fun to shoot to me than the .44s. I went through a colt phase in the '80s and had Pythons and Diamondbacks. I don't have them anymore and love my S & Ws. Still have a couple of 1911s and a Woodsman MT I've had so long I don't even remember where I got it. Love them all but I would not recommend a Python at todays prices and they're having a lot of trouble with the new ones.
You can't go wrong getting a pre-lock Smith in your caliber of choice

Wheel guns definitely have their place. Especially on horseback. The last revolver I got a couple of years ago was a stainless Ruger Bearcat with a 4.2" barrel. I love this thing, small, relatively quiet with just enough power to run coyotes off when they come after my dogs without starting a stampede. Got to have a single action 22lr on hand.

Ive never been a snub nose fan. I dont see how itd be very accurate to shoot stuff with. To me a snub nose is a "5 yard max protection tool for the night stand", kinda gun.

Ive always been a 6 inch barrel fan...
