What's your preferred 22cal heavy bullet?

I have tried the 90gn Sierras and Bergers in 7 and 8" twist in 22/6mm Rem Imp. I gave up trying to get the 90gn pills to work in an 8" twist. Accuracy was just not there even on a warm day (less dense air) while on cold days it was terrible. The 90gn Bergers worked much better in a 7" twist but the downside was some bullets blowing apart due to very high revs. If you do decide on a 7" twist, don't try to push it too fast.

will just stick with my 80s!

I am shooting 80 VLD's at 3560 with my .22 Vais but am wondering whether or not I could stabilize 90 VLD's at maybe 3400 or so with my 8 wish, 3 land barrel using Moly coatings. Anyone throwing the 90 VLD over 3250 in 7 OR 8 twist?
I have in the past, with a 22BR and RL-17, just a tad over 3200 fps.. shot 98.8 percent at Perry with it. I was using a Rock Creek 7.2 twist barrel

B23
Do some actual testing. Actually there is an old post on this forum from Randy robbinett. He also shoots re17 in a 22br. His velocities were higher than what I have even personally seen with 75 and 80 grain bullets. You should of course start with published loads but as most know they are way conservative.
Do a search for 22br and re17. I think you might be surprised. Re17 is a much overlooked powder.
What twist are you running with that RL17 in your BR ?

gonna shoot out to 1000 with a 22BR
I've always been a 6mm man so the long range 22cal is a little in explored territory for me. I need to order some good 80ish grain bullets for my new 22BR rig. I'm thinking Berger but I'm open to anything. What gives you boys the best consistent groups?

Berger 80 grain TARGET, not varmint...jacket won't stand up to high velocity. 8 twist

I started out with Varget, my favorite, is an Extreme powder -wide temp variance tolerance, BUT a bit too slow for 22br. H322 (Extreme powder), VV
N135, Benchmark, in that order. VV expensive.

skeetlee: I now primarily shoot 6br. Varget my choice. Shoot 80s and 105 Hybrids incredibly accurately-8 twist, though Berger recommends 7.5 for Hybrid, but that is dependent upon elevation from sea level.

The 22 BR will do just fine with the 80gr bullet. To suggest otherwise is just silly. In fact RE17 will push that bullet past 3350FPS in a 22BR. The BR is the perfect case. LOL thanks Lee

Lee,

I`m thinking about the 22 BR AI and the 75 or 80`s with R-17, for that extra push......;)

90 GR IN MY 1/7 223 ACK WITH VARGET AND 80GR BERGERS WITH RL-15 THEY BOTH SHOOT VERY WELL FOR ME !!!!:D:D

80.5 Berger for long range 22BR and 69 Lapua Scenario L for anything <600. Both are super accurate and have good results on coyotes.

U GUYS ARE GOING TO HAVE TO TELL YOUR SECERTS ON RL-17 I'LL NEVER GOT IT TO SHOOT IN NOTHING WORTH A FILP !!!!!
