I'm a total klutz with a bunch of wet epoxy-----don't do it often enough
to get good to get good with it. The following applies to Rem 700 &40X
actions
I use a 2-step method as with agr516---but add another sacrificial pad
just forward of the action. This allows the action to float in the bedding
while the barrel is supported in its final desired position by the sacrificial
pads.
I also put a very small amount of epoxy around the recoil lug to hold it
in place longitudinally and radially. Once this preliminary epoxy has cured
the job is ready to bed under the action.
This method has worked well for me over many years. Not as pretty nor
as well executed as a Richard Franklin job but it does work fairly well and
I'm comfortable over the prospects of repeating it.
