What's your guess?

All (ok well most) good guesses. Turned out to be a powder kernel.

It got flattened in the process. Never, ever, have heard of this happening and would have bet the farm that there was no way for it to get wedged in there even if a kernel hung onto the neck with some lube. Seemed to me that the bullet would just push it into the case rather than allow it to get drawn in and compressed. Do occasionally get kernels sticking to the neck on a powder dump from my sizing spray lube accidentally getting in there. Will pay more attention to this and knock them in rather than let the bullet push them down. Took many, many 1000s of reloads to have this happen once. Live and learn. For those who guessed powder kernel nice job.

That's what I would have said if I had seen the post soon enough:D

Yup, had that exact same situation occur a few weeks ago. Like you, never would have guessed that a kernel sticking to the neck wall would not simply be pushed down during bullet seating. Flat based bullets are less prone, I would guess. It would seem that the angle of the boat tail on long, heavier bullets increases the odds considerably. Mine occurred with a 105 gr HPBT in a 6BR sized with a bushing die, and no expander ball.

Who'd of thunk it.

Somewhat amazed that you didn't notice increased effort when you seated the bullet.

You'd think, right?

I have a very vague memory of looking over one that felt a little funny, but that might just be my imagination. Certainly would think it would be a "holy crap" and be obvious, but it clearly wasn't to me.

Really isn't important how it happened, but keep in mind if you had been loading for a "Creedmore" this would not have happened......

You will watch for that the rest of your life and it won’t happen again. I’ve seen them stuck there but the bullet always pushed them down.

You're all wrong, it was Trump. He ordered the kernal to be put there. I saw it on CNN and fact checked it on snopes.

During a recent match, one of my rounds would not chamber during record fire. It's a 308win. I ejected the round, tried it again without success, ejected it, quickly looked it over and noticed nothing irregular, looked in the breech and saw nothing of concern. I never tried to force it in. Chambered next round and it was fine as were the rest of the shots. I always keep one extra round on the line so this was not a problem (until the etarget missed one in that string...).

After the match I looked it over carefully and noticed a lump at the neck. Looked like a small BB pellet between the neck and the bullet. Never seen that before.

Here are three pics. Two looking head on to the bulge and one from the side showing the lump.

Any guesses what it turned out to be?

After a few guesses, I'll reveal.
