What's Your Favorite Vise?

Fireball Tool makes about the strongest vises out there now. They’ve got a USA made and an Asian option.

Edit: I don't see the lower cost Asian option anymore, just the USA

Even though they’ve been pretty good and better than some others Wilton Bullet’s don’t quite stack up.

My Grandpa, Clarence Oscar Seal, was always referred to as "Red". My sister as well.

Well, I spotted a vise 300 miles away on craigslist with raised lettering "Red Seal".

Got that one for sister Karla. That one is for sure my favorite!

When I worked at the shipyard the machine shop had assorted vice's just about everywhere. The only one I remember is Wilton. When I went on line I found people expect a good sum for a clapped out 4in beater,
My only vise was made in Asia somewhere and was given to me, I cleaned it up with a Dremel tool and with a little primer and hammer tone paint it looks OK...maybe someday someone will gift me a Wilton. I know it won't be my wife.

I misread the post. Vegas LOL Tommy Mc

Hit the yard sales and keep your fingers crossed. The Wilton Bullet vises are great, I have 2 of them.
I got my wilton bullet 6" for $25 in Exc+ condition. I was at a moving sale and had a couple things set aside when I saw the vice. I asked how much to add the vise to the pile and the husband said $25. I quickly paid and left before he changed his mind. It was in such good condition, I am not sure it was ever used after being mounted. It is so big, I have it in my workshop...I have a versa vice and a small wilton square slide shop vise in my gun shop.

In addition to the VersaVises, I have a really nice old Paramo No.3 Engineer's Vise. Made by the F. Parramore & Sons, Ltd. in Sheffield England.

My wife hates my 4in clapped out beater. I have a harbor freight vise (central machinery) and an Irwin. Can't complain about either of them. I beat the crap out of the harbor freight one. I had it screwed down to a a massive wood log outside and I'd sharpen mower blades with it and whatever else I needed. Now it's inside.

I had a 4" British (?) Record (Rekord?). For over 20 years it was excellent. It didn't survive the move stateside, I left it with one of my friends in Puerto Rico. I have a 6" Craftsman here in Virginia. Wish I had the Record instead!

Not a Wilton but hard to beat for versatility. It was rough when I bought it but it didn't clean up to bad.

It's my heavy duty, go to vise. I have a few other vises I use for gun work.
