So many people use 296/110 despite its issues I will have to try some Thanksanother vote for H110 powder in 44 Magnum.

How many of you are there?I use 296.
ill look at Herco thanksJust checked my cast loads, 10.7gr of Herco. I haven't shot my .44 in several years, need to get it out and burn up some powder.
N-110. Ok Thanks I'll check it out.hoz53,
I only shoot jacketed bullets, since I shoot the same load in rifle and pistol. VV N-110 works best for me, since it's faster than the other 110 powders. Cleaner, as well. Works best in rifle with 300gr. bullets, pistol with the 240gr. weights.

Ok a lot of choices here I've got some 231 and bullseye Thanksin order of velocity: lil gun, h110/296, 2400, ... unique,HP38/231, bullseye.
For lead bullets you can reduce the loads with lil gun more than you can with H110/296 and 2400 can be loaded to even lower velocities.
for soft plinking loads you can use unique or HP38/231 which will burn a bit cleaner than unique at lower pressures although with lubed lead you may not notice the difference.
Right thanksH110 is actually Winchester Canister 295
Popular ones for sure thanksW296 or H110
4227 ok thanksIMR 4227 for me with cast.
Blue dot okay thanksNo love for Blue Dot?
I use a little over 14 gr. of Blue Dot behind a 240 gr. Keith (linotype, so it's a little lighter than 240). Does a fine job if you don't mind a little soot.
Another blue dot thanksI'm a big fan of Blue Dot in the 44 Magnum.
15.5 grains behind a 200 gn Hornady XTP in my S&W 629 works very well.
Thanks HogIt's been awhile but 2400 for deer hunting 240 jacketed loads in a Ruger handgun.
Unique for reduced/low velocity loads. 2400 and H110 for full power loads.
One thing about using flake shotgun powders in a pistol is the way that they "bridge" in a powder measure. These powders include Blue Dot, 800X, 700X, to a lesser degree, Unique. Blue Dot is just about impossible to throw in most powder measures with any degree of accuracy, one will short, the next a heavy charge....BEWARE!!!
For this very reason, I went to a ball powder to get very, very accurate powder charges thrown. 2400 has to be the dirtiest burning powder you could ever shoot in a pistol.
Hoz53. I have never hit a coyote with 44 magnum or any handgun before. I'm sure the 240 gr Sierra JHC would do a number though. The only opportunity was about 90-100 yards while deer hunting one morning and I hit low.....but he run like a scalded dog though! lol.
