What's under your F-T/R bipod?

The title pretty much describes my question. I am building an F-T/R rig, using a Duplin bipod and Edgewood Minigator rear bag. At matches, I've seen anything from cutting boards to carpet to shooting mats under the bipod. If you've experimented with different things, what worked and what didn't work? Thanks.

Ive got a 1" thick piece of stall mat with a $5 door mat glued to the top. The rubber is heavy and doesnt slip on concrete and is stiff enough to help smooth out uneven ground.

I've also been using rubber stall mat and trying different carpets on top lately. Ive used just the stall mat with no carpet and had decent luck, may try that some more also.

With my setup (Eliseo and Joypod), some ranges (which shoot downhill) require one or two pcs of stall mat under the rear bag as well.

I looked up the NRA rule on the board size and made one to spec out of UHMW. So far it works out well for a sled type bipod.

I use a Seb pod pad under my Sinclair gen 3. When I shoot well; it's a great setup. When I don't shoot well I can't blame the setup.

I saw these before, but couldn't find a place to purchase in the US. Any ideas?

I don't know of anywhere it's being checked, but the NRA rulebook has some size limitations spelled out. I think it's one inch wider than your bipod on each side up to 24" wide max, 12" deep and 1/2" thick. Just about everyone you see is probably wider and thicker than that.

IIRC, ICFRA already addresses that particular issue (width) by qualifying the bipod at it's widest point. If I had to guess (for what that is worth), match directors will use their discretion to do the same until the NRA rule is officially updated.

This is the rule in the FTR section of the current rules on the NRA website. It appears that the NRA clarified the size of boards in the case of bipods with a maximum size, regardless of bipod position.

It also only applies to Boards, which I don't think includes flexible rubber mats and or carpet. But I've seen weirder rulings and could be wrong.

The use of any form of a table is prohibited. Separate flat boards or plates not exceeding the dimensions of the individual rests by two inches are allowed to be placed under the front and/or rear rests. In the case of a bipod, the board may not exceed the width of 24” nor depth of 12” and thickness of 1/2”.
No leveling screws or protrusions are allowed on these boards or plates. They must be flat on the top and bottom.

This discipline is a modification of high power prone shooting, not a form of bench rest and should not be construed as such.

Disabled competitors may apply to the NRA Protest Committee for appropriate dispensation.

The intent of this rule is to prevent the use of a table type device.

Ray, see I read that as any length as long as it's no more than 2 inches wider than the bipod (Some of em get REALLY wide) other than that no more than 24.

Tell me if I'm wrong cause I'll change it. I got mine cut to 23 3/4s X 11 3/4 X .5 right now but I can re-cut.

Jim,
That's the way I understand it. A lot of them I have seen are really wide and thicker than the 1/2". I also have not seen them checked anywhere, so it's not that big of an issue.

OK My question was pretty garbled (Like the rules I guess) . Let me re-phrase.
I thought that anyone's board could be 24 X 12 X .5 unless your bipod is REALLY stretched out then it could be wider, but no more than two inches wider than the bipod. Did that make more sense? Also It sounds like I'm wrong. Just lemme know.

Thanks Ray

It seems like this is the way its enforced because ive seen many that were more than two inches wider than the bipod.

There was a thread about the rules pertaining to what was legal to place under a bipod earlier this summer.

http://forum.accurateshooter.com/index.php?topic=3847641.0

Long story short, the rules were somewhat vague, and the NRA voiced a clarification, at least for camp perry matches. I don't know whether this has been incorporated into the official rules.

I just cut mine 2" wider than my bipod and that was less than 24". Hopefully that would pass inspection if it ever gets to that.
