Yes you can do that. Occasionally action threads get tighter in close, caused by wear on the tap Rem. used.. Rem. barrels are threaded with enough clearance to account for this and they take it up with whatever locker they use. A closely cut barrel thread occasionally won't go in all the way. You probably don't have that situation, but if you do it's easily fixed with the tap. I have that tap and have needed to use it a couple times. Worked beautifully, surprised me how much metal was removed that last 1/4-3/8 inch...

Yes. 1-1/16 x 16. Not cheap, best to find one on ebay if you can.
