What's the problem on making great chambers?

Eddie Harren is near you & Bob Green isn't too far away. +1 on Sid & Clay...

+1 on all above. And, Benchrest Hall of Fame Clarence Hammonds is another just north of you in southern PA.

well done...and i like the comment..."i am a machinist that does barreling"....again spot on.

i never said no one can chamber...there are guys out there that understand the task, not just the instructions they were given..

but i have seen guys with large amounts of tooling, hours of setup......getting little done per hour....and refuse to look at other methods..

the used 30br krieger bbl i have is a perfect example of very close and still missing the details...it shoots..but the back of the chamber is over sized...

Stool you hit a sore spot.
Mike Bryant has a 132 page PDF on chambering. In it are methods from many many leading gunsmiths. All are different with the same results - great chambers. Some use the steady rest method. I for one also use a steady rest to chamber in. I have 8 customers holding 22 National Records. I am a machinist that does barreling. Any way will work - you just have to find someone you trust. You cannot go wrong with any of the above recommended smiths.

Give Steve Satern a call. He owns Satern Rifle Barrels. He was a tool and die guy for 20+ years and got into barrel making. He makes good barrels and cuts good chambers. He's also willing to experiment with things, so if you want something done outside the norm, he's your guy. A lot of smiths have their way of doing something and that's it.

With all the information and great tools out there, it is actually surprising that anyone cuts an unacceptable chamber.

NO, ITS NOT....
there are those that "know" how it is done and have no time to look at anything else(learn something new).
some are just , old, set in their ways and have too much equipment tied up in their poor process.

Kind of what I was saying. There is tons of info available. People should make use of it. It's what I plan to,do.
