What’s the Difference Between a Shouldered Pre-Fit and a Barrel Nut Pre-Fit for a Savage?

And you don’t have to bush the bolt, primary extraction and timing is squared away, superior triggers with hanger, disassembly easier, bolt lift lighter, fits rem chassis etc.

Less money and far superior to the savages and remingtons I used to throw money at.

You are saying what I tell my customers these days. I had that exact conversation yesterday. Just too many GREAT actions on the market with affordable prices to mess with others. The Remington footprint gets you the best stocks and chassis choices, and triggers.

Eventually I will be doing as much gunsmithing as possible to my guns when retired, to include Savage barrel replacement. So, what is better, shouldered pre-fit or barrel nut pre-fit? What are the pros & cons of both? I've done a couple reads, but I just not wrapping my head around it, I guess.
I don't Pre-Fit anything if I am doing my own gunsithing

The PTA will be sent off for truing & timing before I attempt my first barreling
I’m not sure I would do any truing, that might change the action threads. It shouldn’t need any of that. The bolt head floats so why would timing be necessary ?
Bolt lift and bushing makes sense though.

Ahhhh
Understand that but you too can make pre-fits at home.
Pre fit to me is not needing the action in hand (or needing to disassembling your rifle) to make a good fitting barrel.
Ahhhhh, Ok , now I'm following ya
yes if you blueprinted it out knowing all the measurements for that one action
but that would only apply to one particular action right?
for instance, all my Remingtons are different from one to the other
SO if I prefit for one Rem action, that one barrel would only be applicable to that one action
---------------
I also am seeing maybe you are referring to having switch barreled rifles
(Multiple barrels in different calibers for one rifle?)

Ahhhh

Yep.

I have been using Savage actions for years just so I could change barrels. If I had it to do over, I would go Remington just for the trigger. Trigger and sear is the only Savage weak point.

Has anybody tested the Weatherby action? If I recall correctly, they use Savage barrel threads and are a Rem clone.

For a nutted barrel, I actually like the Ruger American
Mainly for being a 3 lug shorter throw than the Rem
its trigger can be modified easily enough to make a nice 1.5 - 2.0 lb trigger
the bolt handle can be swapped out too
Which I will testify is ONE TOUGH bolt handle that breaks carbide tooling
much tougher than the Rem
-------------
I think the Vanguard action is the one you are referring to?
Which is a Howa 1500 action, and I don't believe the Rem 700 trigger fits these
I would stick with a Rem 700 over a Howa(Vanguard)

Yep
Trigger and stock/chassis options are why I moved away from savages.
