What's the best powder for 6.5 creedmoor?

I've bought a 6.5 creedmoor, got lapua brass with small primer pocket, plan on using 140 grain hornady sst. (I'm using it for long range hunting). Wondering what powder would be the best or what you have had best success with?

H4350, Hogdon hybrid 100V, Reloder 16 are three I have tested and all have great precision potential and velocity with 140gr range projectiles. H hybrid 100V has more temperature sensitivity than the other two mentioned.

For a hunting gun look at Reloder 26, you can get very close to 3,000 with a 140 grain bullet. Yes, you read that correctly, 3,000fps. The drawbacks are temp sensitivity above ~84F(very stable below that) and gets the barrel really hot if firing longer shot strings. Otherwise h4350 if you can find it.

AaronD,

Most of us suffer from the knee-jerk reaction to a question like this by responding with the same answer given since the 6.5 Creedmoor was released for sale, H-4350.

The problem has become one of locating a sustainable source for this powder. Unfortunately, this is proving to be a challenge these days. Yes, I see Recob's has a supply in, as do a few other LGS but this is not what should be termed as sustainable, where you can can walk in or order to buy the product. We're even conditioned now to pay an exorbitant fee to have powder shipped because it is unavailable locally. This will range from $19.00 to $32.00 (Recob's) per weight restriction on top of the cost of shipping.

Enter other choices. I have been using and enjoying:

Norma URP
Re-16
Re-17
VVN-150 (slower, cooler, less velocity)
Ramshot Hunter (check for lot # recall)

Of these I really have gotten good results from the Norma URP and Re-16 currently.

Enjoy the process!

I didn't realize that the Creedmoor needed gunpowder; I thought it was a magical cartridge that could hit a target at any range without compensating for distance.

People need to know that while Reloder 16 and Reloder 17 have similar burn rates they are very, very different powders. Different formulations, and different manufacturing plants. RL 16 is formulated to be very, very temp stable. RL 17 was blended for high velocities for a given charge weight. There is no reason not to try both powders. But if max speed is not your objective, and something very, very similar to H4350 is your objective, then Reloder 16 would get the nod.

It sure seems to me that H-4350 is more available than it used to be. I don't mean to sound like a smart ass but $25.00/lb delivered to your door is not that bad. I just ordered 16 lbs and that was the damage. When you are shooting a $6k rig and God only knows how much we spend on reloading tools etc., I for one am willing to spring for the magic dust that goes into the blessed cartridge which delivers the bullet to the center of the target while the gun is pointed in the other direction. Sorry, I may have had a little too much caffeine already. :D Gosh I wish I ordered a 270 AI instead though after all of the nonsense. The point is, How bad do we really have it???

In my hawk hill barreled savage. h4350 produced the tightest groups. I switched to imr 4451 enduron because I couldn't locate 8lbs of h4350. 4451 doesn't group quite as well but the accuracy node is very wide.
