What's the Barrel Life of the 6.5x47mm

So, I've been really smitten lately with the 6.5x47mm and I'm curious how the barrel life is on this cartridge. Does it fair as well as the small 6mm BR???

Also on a side note, I've seen a few improved 6-6.5x47mm cartridges has anyone done a similar chamber for the standard round yet? If so what sort performance is to be expected from such a modification?

Currently, I'll looking for something that is effective from 300-1000y and I was originally considering the 6mmBR on a Ross-Gikes rifle but I think the 6.5x47mm should offer better performance at 600yards-1000yards with the added recoil of the 6.5x55 or 6.5x284's. But I would like to turn up the velocity of the 139-147grain VLD's from 2590-2690fps to about 2700-2800fps at the muzzle. I think the first step is a 30 inch barrel but I think alittle extra capacity wouldn't hurt either.

I'm basing my data from the Lapua Factory Ammo brochure. I sure that the standard case can give 2800fps performance but I want to get a little extra performance. I want to see if I cannot get the VLD's out 1000 yards with a minimal amount of wind drift.

2700-2800 fps with N160 or N550, 139 to 142 grainers and a 30" tube is definitely feasible. You should get more barrel life with this cartridge and a long tube than you would with a .260 and a 26 incher for the same speed range.

Nobody has burned one out yet?

Of course powder, pressure, and heat and how its shot will come into play.

I would venture a guess of 2500-3000 rounds

RHINOUT!

I was thinking somewhere in that same neighborhood given the powders that work best in the cartridge.

Yeah, I read that it was capable of producing 2900-300fps with 140grain Bergers in an article on this site, http://www.6mmbr.com/gunweek072.html) so I figure that a slightly improved version should be able to give me 2800-2950 range without serious issues in barrel life or wear since the powder burning would be only increased by 2-3grains max. I also think that a 31.5 inch barrel might be help as it will give almost 28 inches of actual usable barrel for propelling the projectile and total impulse is the key to velocity.

So I've got a wild idea, I'm going to design and have built a totally custom action and rifle stock. What do you think this will cost? I just don't see any rifle, stock, or action with features I want.

Yeah but I think it is worth the additional costs. I mean if you're going to spend 3-5K on a rifle and only get some of the features you want why not go the extra 2-3k and get all of them?
