Barrel life calculatorJOHN708 said:What's the barrel life of a 7mm SAUM shooting 180 bergers with 60-62 grs of H-4831sc. Since it's using approx. 6-8 grs. more powder than a 284 I'm thinking it will be between a 284 and a 7mm WSM. Is 1500 rds about right?

No blue print, it's been blown out at the shoulder .006 and with a 35 degrees shoulder, with a 316 neck and a 188 free-bore......
Bones, what loads have you found to be most consistant with the 180 Bergers in your rifle? Also, what speeds are you getting? barrel length? Twist? The RSAUM case let's me seat 180 bergers to a COL of 3.035 .010 off the lands for targets then switch over to 120 vmax .010 off the lands for varmint control. I don't think the short neck of the wsm would allow you to do this.

Thanks
Just clarifying, Bartmans 60.9 is the same as a 100.9 in USA, and I have seen him shoot, he is no keyboard marksman.bartman007 said:I'm running 62.5gns of H1000 and getting 2950fps. Running 180gn Bergers.
I recrowned for the first time at 1800 rounds as I felt the center count had dropped to around the 60.5 mark, and the other day when hitting 1900 rounds I shot 60.9 with the following 7 shots still in the Super V at 800 yards.
While 800 yards is considerably easier due to target size, it still proved that the 7mm SAUM when running moderate loads, still maintained the competitive accuracy that it had 1800 rounds earlier.
Go the Krieger barrels, always happy with them!!!
I have to say though that you are doing well to have it going so well at 1800 rounds. My 284 Shehanes are starting to lose their edge by 2000 rounds and my 7mm/300WSMs have all needed a rechamber before 1200 rounds on the ones I ran around 2950 fps (usually between 61-62gns of H4831sc). The ones I cranked up to 3080 fps went south long before this.
for those of you shooting H1000 with 180 vlds, are you using magnum primers?
Gadget, you run N165 which is one of the coolest burning powders around, even cooler burning than H1000 (and noticeably cooler than H4831sc). With a powder this cool, you can run it hot :-\ without eroding the throat as much.Gadget said:Hi Rod/Bart
I recently won the NSW Match Rifle Champs with 1750 on my 7 saum barrel, and I run it HOT as you know.
