What's it worth? RL-1050

Hey guys, I googled the heck out of it but couldn't find much current info.

I've been considering a progressive press for a while now for 9mm/45acp/223/300BO. I found an RL-1050 with 9/45 conversions / dies and two extra tool heads/ powder measures as well as three extra dies/conversions (forget calibers). It has a case feeder as well and some spare parts but the guy didn't want to set anything up to demo.

Prices seem a little all over the place with these, can anyone weigh in on what a good deal on it is? Will Dillon warranty or service it if I get it set up and it needs something? I've read mixed information in that regard.

Thank you

It really depends on condition but somewhere around $1K from what I have seen.

Dillon does not warranty the 1050 but the couple guys that I know who have one, said that Dillon has always sent them replacement parts for free.

Thanks for the input, he is asking way more than that but I wasn't sure what the value of the accessories is. I checked ebay sold listings and it looks like it's probably not enough to take the risk, especially since he doesn't want to demonstrate it operating which I think is a bit of a red flag.

I have a RL-1050 and a super 1050. I load all my pistol ammo on the RL1050. It has a shorter pull then the super 1050 which is great for small cases.

I loaded on an XL650 for about 10 years and it's been about ten years since, and unless it was setup and demo'ed I wouldn't want to put much more than a grand into it, if it was clean looking. Without any experience with a Dillon progressive the RL1050 is a giant leap. Not saying it isn't for you, just saying...

Ah well this one is a no go but I'd love to find one of these things reasonably priced and in good condition, it would be nice to have something to mount a dillon trimmer to anyway. I'll probably end up buying a Lee 6000 to get started until I find a nice dillon down the road or until they work the kinks out of the FA X-10's.

I bought 2 super 1050's 6 months ago. One with ammobot autodrive which I love..

The manual came with case feeder, mr.bulletfeeder, multiple toolheads, everything for 9mm, 45 and 5.56 including dies... I paid 1500 for it. Tore it down, cleaned it up and lubed it, looks brand new and runs perfectly. Got all of it for $1500..

Second one with ammobot, all the sensors, everything for 9, 45 and 10mm 2 toolheads, also case feeder and bulletfeeder, lot fo spare parts, all the caliber case and bullet feeder plates for $2200.. same deal...tore it down, cleaned and lubed, runs amazing.

Nice set ups, where did you find the presses? I've seen some Dillons go reasonably at auctions but they don't come up too often.

Guy posted a FS add on PAFOA... He ended up having like 5 or 6 of them along with lots of spare parts and accessories.. I got 2 and he kept 1 and sold the rest.. he ended up being 15min from me so I went to his house, he demoed them and I bought them on the spot

You definitely lucked out there, I've found decent deals on rifles on PAFOA but everyone selling reloading supplies on there seems to think that they are worth what they paid new.

While I sometimes think an upgrade from my Dillon 550 presses would be nice, I am kind of stuck with what I have. I have two 550 presses, and to upgrade to say a 750, I would need to sell everything I have and then basically start over, shell plates, toolheads, etc. I even considered doing so but after researching the Dillons, as well as RCBS, Hornady, I decided that I have what I have.

Somebody, anybody, find me a couple at that price range shipped to the house. There are no dummies in Idaho that want to unload 1050's that cheap.

This guy was no dummy and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

He bought out a recently closed small boutique ammo maker $30k for the entire shop. 8 or 9 presses, (4 or 5 1050's, mark 7, few 650's) roll sizer, few cp2000's, over 500k primers, over 1 million rifle and pistol bullets, few million brass cases, tons of powder, and bins of spare parts, dies, shell plates, toolheads, case feeders and Mr. Bulletfeeders.

He only wanted the mark 7 and roll sizer, and planned to sell everything else so his purchases ended up being free.

I bought 2 1050s from him both with case and bulletfeeders, he threw in multiple toolheads, dies in 9, 10mm and 45 and 223 with all the conversions and feeder plates...

He sold a few of the other presses right when I was buying mine and just sold all the primers, powder, bullets and brass.

I'd say he made over $5k profit after all said and done.. he just wanted a quick sale of everything, he wanted to get his initial investment back and free shit he wanted

Sounds like he bought primers, powder, and bullets, brass, and the 1050's and other presses were a free throw in.
This was not a basic 1050 for sale deal. You scored, but ever before or since? I was talking regular sales by a user wanting to sell a 1050.
I have the latest Dillon catalog sitting here. The 1050 has been superceded by the Super 1050. A mere $2499, plus shipping, plus tax in your home state (per the recent Supreme Court ruling).

Not to argue, we are talking apples VS oranges.

Keep your eyes open. It does take persistence.
For example, a fellow needed to move quickly, and I bought his casting lot - ~3/4 ton of lead for $1000. Easily 200 lbs linotype and 200 lbs of Lyman #2, two casting pots, two dozen ingot molds, >40 molds with handles, sizer dies & top punches to match, multiple Lyman Lube-sizers and two working Posness Warren shotgun presses. He had a poorly worded ad that had been up for a while, and I happened to contact him the week before his move date.
I have seen 1050s come up and languish because of the price. I'd bet many can be had for much less than the asking for the right offer of cash and trade.
I found a Dillon 650 with four heads with Dillon dies, two powder doppers and a bunch of spare parts for $500. That has been my workhorse for the last 8 years.

My complete 1050 for 38 & 45 & several extra parts was 1500.00. I was happy to pay.

I have never owned a 650. I went from SDB's to 550's, all of which I still own; to buying a 1050 here last week for $1600 shipped with a few extras. I am very pleased with the deal.
Thousand dollar 1050's for sale are like conservative democrats; you encounter one every great once in a while. But don't expect to every year.
