The rifle is really nice, shot very little , blueing is looks perfect and the wood is as well. Just a few tiny impressions in the wood that are hard to see but are there. Its just a really nice rifle in very good to near perfect condition. Its not for sale as of yet, just wondering if i got a deal or paid to much. Guess that doesn't matter its mine now. Thanks

I could never find a good trigger replacement for the factory one which was almost impossible to make lighter.

I need to talk to my smith about the trigger. It isn't what I call bad but heavier than what I am use to. He's pretty good with triggers and has Brownings and No.1's both.

I bought a Browning 1885 in .270 Win about 6 months back. Owner was asking $1,000 & I bought it for $900. Seems to to be in similar condition as you described. I replaced the trigger spring which dropped the pull to 3 lbs.

How is the accuracy of these rifles? Not expecting BR accuracy but hope they shoot good. I'll be shooting hand loads.

I've just started load development but my basic 4831/130 gr load is moa & better. I was surprised (& concerned) when I found out that my rifle has considerable freebore. But I just set the bullet depth where I was comfortable for handling hunting ammo & it was all good. In other words, my rifle is not showing signs of being "picky" at all. I haven't messed with the forend or anything other than the lighter trigger spring. (BTW: that spring change out was simple. I bought the spring from Lee Shaver. He can be reached at 417-682-
3330).

I got to shoot the Browning today. I must say I was shocked in the accuracy of these rifles. Sub MOA was easy in five different loads and two loads were in the 1/2-5/8 range. Way better than I was expecting for the first time out. I originally bought the rifle to flip. Guess its a keeper for a while now anyway. Now for better optics and some trigger work. I could live with the trigger but at 4 1/2 pounds, I think it needs a tune up.

Thank you for the offer to buy but as of right now, I think I'm going to hang on to it. I saw the previous owner at the gun show. He traded it for a Ruger 77 Varmint in 25-06. Bet he lost his ass on that deal. Wish I had thought about it then, but the rifle wasn't mine yet, as to if he still had the original box. I like having the original box's when available.

I went to Browning's web site. If I looked the serial number up correctly, it was made in 1998. Not being a Browning anything, I don't know if this is correct or not. Also, I didn't see an offering for the 85 High Wall either. Is this a discontinued rifle? I also saw one advertised for sale in 7 Mag and the seller was calling it "Rare". My smith has a few Brownings and he said he had never seen one in 7 Mag either. Any truth to "rare"?This is the 2nd Browning rifle I have ever owned so I know very little about them. LOL, the only thing I know for sure is the rifle is pretty, in good condition and shoots dang good.
