What's better in the dasher rl 15 or h4895.

Curious on your opinions, I'm trying to withdraw from varget. I'm set up with a 1:7.5 twist and .135 throat using 105 class bullets.

Standard answer, YMMV.
I have 2 Savage Dashers.
I used RL15 and Sierra 107 in my first one.
My second one preferred Varget, and also Sierra 107.
Buy powders that are available, develop loads, and see which one works best.
Hope you find a combo for a nice small group.

My only options right now is rl 15, rl 16, or the h4895. I have to buy more powder and I buy the 8lb. jugs only because when I find a good load I can stick with it for a season or two at the local matches and not have to mess around re tuning between lots.

I guess I could get 2 out of the 3 choices listed and one or both may work?

Unfortunately it’s not a simple answer, you’ll have to try and see what works for you. FWIW, all I use is Reloder 15

As has already been said, you really have to test to see what your barrel prefers. That being said, in the 4 dasher barrels that I had Varget was always the best but I tried RL15 and H-4895 in all to be certain.

RL-15 and H4895 will work in nearly any barrel.
Not sure what your needs are, however, both are good and have a proven track record. I can get any of my three dashers to shoot small with either one. I have both on hand and if I only had one, I would not feel handicapped. Grab one and shoot it.
Like ANY other powder, you will have to map it. They all need adjusted to squeak the last bit of accuracy out of them as environmental conditions change. I only say this because lot’s of folks have said RL-15 is yada-yada-yada and the “H” extreme powders are stable in varying temperatures. I have to adjust H4895 for every match and sometimes during a match. For what it is worth, most of the smallest groups I have ever shot with my dashers is with RL-15. H4895, and RL-16 have the rest of the small groups.
Have fun.

I am kicking myself. I have had GREAT luck in the past shooting RL 15. For some stupid reason i started to listen to all of the keyboard marxmen talking about all of these new wonder powders last year instead of doing real load development and I blew off RL 15 all together . Pretty sure that was a dumb mistake.

Going back to the drawing board this spring!!!;)

If my rifle shot them both well I would pick 4895 any day over rl 15 although it shoots fine it’s so darn filthy.

I got off the Varget band wagon a couple months ago because it dried up all over the country. Bought some H4895 and already had the RL15. So far with 400 rounds down the new barrel I have a solid .3 moa 600 load with 107 SMKs. My H4895 is almost there. With all that being said I found six pounds of Varget at my my local store a few days ago. How cool is that?

I like Norma 203-B and some people say it is the same powder as RL-15. Norma makes RL-15 for Alliant. I started with Varget years ago, then shot RL-15 a few years, now Norma 203-B.

Randy,
I learned something new as I didn’t know Norma made Alliant , I knew Hodgdon didn’t make there’s but not Alliant and I worked for there mother company at one time. So can you get Norma where you live? I’ve never seen it here in the west.

Just switched one of my Dashers from Varget to Reloader 15. Why? Why not?

Just wanted to try something different and it is. Found a load that works better at 600 with the Reloader 15. Never choreographed it yet but will. More interested in groups and not speed.

One issue I do not like is the gooey goop in the barrel left by Reloader 15. I mean flat out liquid goo brought out with BoreTech C4 and other carbon cleaners. It comes out rather easily. Varget and H4895 also do that but not to the degree I found using Reloader 15.

I have a local shop order it for me when I run Low. I think the Norma is similar to that military pull down stuff a couple years back that was labeled MATCH

I am not sure this is true, I think it is SWISS made.

The label on the RE-15 and Ar Comp that I have, says Made in Sweden for Alliant.
Could be Bofors as well as Norma

Alliant RL15 and Norma 203B are close to the same, but not identical:

Both are made in Sweden (EURENCO Bofors) for Alliant and Western Powder (Norma).

And here is there QL properties:

Find what you’re combination likes and shoot it. All barrels are different and what works for me might not work for you. Both powders perform equally. Go to the range and test.

well , if a person really had "THE" time to babysit a powder & its optimum charge day to day it is my belief from shooting both powders let alone considering all options that reloader 15 when in its optimum spot is more forgiving to lack of spit shots while shooting against the wall than most every other option I have used.
