For what purpose?

My 7mm Rem mag is accurate, has taken big bull elk cleanly with one shot and doesn't have obnoxious recoil. It's pretty much perfect for my needs.

The 7 STW and 7mm Ultra Mag are obviously faster & harder hitting.

The 7mm-08 and the .284 are exceptionally accurate.

Remington's .280, particularly the .280 AI, is one very impressive all around cartridge...

There's a bunch of good 7's for ya! Take your pick...

Nosler has some excellent load data for the .280 AI:

Hope that helps! Some of those loads come amazingly close to what a 7mm Rem mag can do... Without the belted magnum case. Pretty cool.

Comparing the .260 and the .280 means comparing two rather different cartridges. The .260 is the .308 necked down and is an excellent cartridge for short-action rifles. The .280 is based on the .30-06 case and has a whole lot more powder capacity. Two quite different beasts.

280/280AI is way better in terms of performance over the 260Rem.Not bad in recoil.I personally never liked it for some odd reason.A 7mm-08 is the way to go for all-around shooting,but any of the 7mm's mentioned above will do what you want.

The 7mm SAUM will do anything the 280 Ackley will do and probably be more accurate at doing it, IMHO it's the best of the 7's..........

My personal choice is the 7mm/08. This would be for Moose on down to coues deer. I think the arrival of the accurate laser rangefinder has made the reason for flat shooting rifles less. Carl L.

Just an Idea.......

Take a .338LM Case, cut it down to about 2" create a nice neck and a 30° shoulder....
Load VV165 Fed 215M and Bergers 180grs and get 3000fps++

Wow, 3450 with a 176gr. I've got to ask, how? I'm planning a 7mm build and you might have just made up my mind.
