What would you do?

My yard sale rifle named the Mutt has a Cobra action and two barrels. One is a PPC and the other is a 6mm Dasher. Both have shown exceptional accuracy...BUT the action is not bedded deep enough in the stock. This bothers me, but I have resisted fooling with it because it shoots very well. In the picture below, one can see by the tang and the trigger that it needs to be deeper in the stock. It is not glued into the stock. What would you do in this situation?

If you go deeper, bolt handle slot, loading port and barrel channel will have to be opened up the same amount as your inlet for clearance.
Then your gonna have to paint it.

You see a lot of stocks with the actions sitting too high. It bothers me too. Drop the whole inlet, re bed, then send it to Bc'z. But its only cosmetic.

James, if that 1/8 inch is causing you that much grief, by all means grind out all of the bedding, re bed it, do all of the other necessary fitting, and sleep better at night.

It sounds to me like you are scratching for something to do, and ole “Mutt” is the perfect candidate to cure the itch.

Understood… but if it ain’t broke, why fix it? The only reason I can see is for the benefit of the next owner. @Bc'z does fantastic work, but the next owner will have their own ideas on what appeals to them.

Check the cocking piece for clearance when the bolt is open all the way.
