had occasion to have the extractor off my Savage 12br so I decided to check headspace. Found that the bolt would close on the nogo. It was tight but fairly easy to fully close. I’ve got 200 pieces Lapua brass that I’ve been shooting in this rifle for a total of about 1000 rounds. Should I tighten up the headspace so that I get very slight movement on the nogo, will I be able to bump the shoulder back enough to get my brass to load or is it time to buy some new Lapua?

"If" you had the go-nogo gauges, action wrench and nut wrench I would make it so it doesn't close on the no-go. Then FL size and start again FF the brass. Then bump the shoulder back as needed.
But, thats just me. :)

Id probably set it right like it should be.. and try to figure out how much it was off to know how far to bump back the shoulders.. if its not much, Id just resize the brass and keep truckin

+1 for leaving it alone. With 1000 rounds through the barrel, it may not be shot out, but it's closer to the end than to the beginning. Set it right for the next barrel. Just my $0.02.

Headspace only matters for factory loads.

Assuming you have your shoulder bump set for your chamber, then your reloads match your chamber. Your cartridge is your own borderline "wildcat" which is .002" longer than SAAMI for the round you are shooting. Note tongue is planted in cheek for that last comment, although it does illustrate a concept. -Jerry
