I'm bummed....I've got an old Hall 'M' action, 308 boltface that I'm building a long range varminter in 6BR on. It's never had a barrel on it. I've made the trigger guard and a 40 minute tapered scope base. Today, I set it up in the mill to redrill the base screw holes to 8-40 and the existing holes aren't at 12 o'clock when the action screw holes are at 6 o'clock. There isn't much to indicate on the action to set it up, but when I put headless screws in the bottom of the action, and set the action up on top of my vice letting the screws hold the action straight-up, the 6-48 holes on top of the action are rolled over. When I locate the top dead center of the action the #28 drill bit is not going to clean up the 6-48 holes.,does any of this make sense?) I guess I could follow the existing 6-48 holes when redrilling, and then redrill the bottom action screwholes to 1/4-28. They are too small now at #10's. The action was designed to be a glue-in, but I'll do a conventional job. What would you guys do?
