I broke it

B&C A 3 stock, I had to remove factory pad on the butt stock. It was replaced with a Tubb's adjustable unit. the holes were lined up great for the installation, so it was basically a part swap. However recoil and rubbing on the rear bag, has stripped the bottom screw. There's no room to redrill the hole. so I asking if I might just fill the void in the stock with a foam product. Then finish with a 1/2 - 3/4" of epoxy of some kind, let it cure and redrill a ne set of mounting holes. Would set screw type hardware be a better idea? Thanks folks

Your best bet is to glue in a insert, then screw it in. That foam isn't strong enough. It's there to fill the void.

:o That would probably be too easy. What material do Ya think would be best?? I don't have any serious metal working tools.

When I have shortened hollow synthetic stocks,I have always made up a 1" wood block to fit and epoxied it in place. You can then screw anything you want into it.

Birch??? too keep it light.

So the original butt plate screws were in the right place for your new Tubb adjustable butt plate, but the threads have stripped out of the holes in the stock?

What you need to do is kind of like pillar-bedding an action, but horizontal.

Carefully drill out the existing screw holes with a power or hand drill to a diameter of 10 - 12mm (~ 3/8 - 1/2") and ~ 30mm / 1" deep. Then fill these new, larger holes with a good quality epoxy glue like Devcon. The stuff that takes 24 hrs to cure solid is best as it's tougher than the 5 min. kind.

Once it's cured hard, find the hole centers with the butt plate taped in place then drill new pilot holes according to the root diameter of the screw threads you want to use. You could even drill & tap for machine screws if you prefer those to wood screws.

Done right it'll be stronger than the original.
