What would you build?

Chuck,

Not lame at all......

After 6+ months of chemo I could no longer handle the tiny bullets / cartridges, getting better now but I think I`ll just stick to the Fireball sized cases as my smallest.....;)

Phil.

Lilja 17 cal barrels are Awesome. Get a 4 groove 9 twist. The 17 Squirrel or 17 Mink are wicked little rounds. CZ 527s make nice actions for these two rounds. Ruger hornet actions will work as repeaters with the squirrel family.

Good to know. Thanks for the input. I think I've decided to go bigger, I have the Lilja Barrel on order. I have had good luck with them in the past. Those little rounds look like lots of fun, I could still get a CZ and go that route, you never know. Too many choices

That's my issue as well. neuropathy in hands and feet. I call it the new normal.

I understand fully,,,,4 yrs ago I broke my neck on a 4 wheeler,,am now numb from the elbow down in both arms and knees down both legs,,,the smalletst I can handle is 6mm bullets ,,,,and they are like threading a needle ,,,hahaha,,,(not funny !!)....we all must thank God for what we can still do,,,my rehab/theropy group said that loading ammo was good for my motor skills and is one of the things that helped me get back to some normalcy with my hands and fingers,,,,Roger
PS,,,some smart alec ridiculed me for my bad spelling/typing,,,he has no idea how grateful I am to be able to fumble thru with the little things in life that we (speaking abbout myself) take for granted,,,,

I had back surgery last week, one of the reasons Ive been spending too much time on here, expensive - but fun. I have new appreciation for just what your talking about . I was misdiagnosed with spinal stenosis, it end up being a severely herniated disc. However while contemplating how to deal with what was ahead I learned to be grateful for what your abilities are. Nice post. I hope your motor skills continue to improve, you sure have the right attitude.

I switched to Wilson seating dies because if my .17AH.

I took the seating top off and dropped the bullets down the neck to get them to sit on top of the case for seating....

I did a quick search for 221 fireball brass. Theres quite a bit of it on Gunbroker. One listing had 60 plus lots of Lapua brass 100CTs available. Thought I might post that in case anyone may be looking for it. I'm not seeing a lot of excitement for the really small stuff. See what comes up in the next few days - 17 fireball might be it.
Yes, .221 Fireball brass is usually available but .17 Fireball brass is generally scarce as hens teeth. A recent auction on gunbroker for 52 pieces of USED brass went for $65 including shipping. Another "gotch" on the .17FB brass is primer pockets. I've got maybe a 100 that are too loose to use.

Having said that, if you want something quiet, go for the .17HH. A friend has one and he's shot groundhogs out to a little over 200 but it suffers from the same wind issues as other lightweights.

I recently started making .17 Fireball brass from .221.

Easier than expected, or maybe I just fell into something that worked for me....

2nd. piece chambers with juuust a touch of resistance, hopefully firing it soon to check it against other fired brass, and more importantly the chamber and it`s dimensions.....
