What wildcats are based off 30-30 brass?

Okay folks, I’m recovering from surgery (4 hernias repaired) and sitting here reading about stuff that I normally pass over.

I read a cool thread about a fellow shooting a 30-30 or improved? In the score Nationals.

Then I read a bunch of info about the Donaldson Wasp in the Benchrest Primer.

Just a few minutes ago, I read about some T/C shooters necking down the 30-30 brass to 6.5 and 6mm.

Now I’m super curious as to how many wildcats have spawned from the humble 30-30.

If you know of any, please share what you know.
Thanks

Ea brown has a line up of cartridges based on the 30-30.
6mm and 6.5 BRM ( bench rest magnum.

Todd Kindler had the classic line up based on shortened 30-30 brass much like an improved 30 Herrett
17,20,22,6mm,25,6.5 and 7mm. I have a 25 Classic.

Are all of those for single shot rifles?
Sound like a hoot for varmints.

Many of these rounds are wildcatted for the single shot crowd. As most are designed for actions that are weaker than most modern bolt actions. And a. Rimmed case just works better in the break actions like the T/C Contenders.

Blueberry has a line of 30-30 base cartridges.
JDJ has a few also.

Well how ‘bout that, I just happen to have a pro hunter action collecting dust!

If you use the 225 Win Mag to form instead of the 30-30 brass you can get a .473 bolt face in a semi-rimmed case, suitable for a bolt action standard face. That setup is the basis for the Rex Merrill cases also use in the Merrill and RPM single shop pistols. The 30 Merrill is basicly a 30-30 with a blown out body, 40 degrees shoulder in 65 K brass. This was created as a hunting cartridge for a handgun.
The 7mm International is based on a 30-30 case, for the Wichita single shot International pistol.
If you use the 6.8 SPC brass to form, you can form a rimless version of the Herrett line of cartridges, all really started with 30-30 brass.

It turns out the 224 Valkyrie is a rimless case that is about 95% similar to Harvey’s 219 Wasp.

If I was building a short range bench gun I’d build a 14 twist Valkyrie but I’ve got too many guns now.

Coincidentily, tomorrow I’m taking the Wasp out for its annual group shooting with a couple friends.

30/30 based wildcats are perfect for the Contender format. Here are some. In the first photo case on left is based on 225 Win and the rest are 30/30 based. Second photo shows 25 Bullberry, 7/30 Waters IMP and 30/30 Ackley IMP that are 30/30 based. Third picture shows 219 Zipper and 219 Donaldson Wasp. Fourth picture 6mm BB IMP & 6.5mm BB IMP .
Safe shooting
Doug
