longest varmint shot

Benjerman--take a look at the 2nd posting in this thread and u'll see the new base system they were using. That was the last article written on these guys. They never accomplished 2 miles. Gordy Gritters might though.

sscoyote,
I havn't been able to make the link come up, but would love to see it. Hard to comprehend shooting as far as they do. 1000 yards on a calm day must be a walk in the park.

Just google 2-mile prairie dog and it should give u the link better maybe.

Got a buddy i've been hunting with this year for coyotes--he's using an AR-10 243 and uses all the gizmos. He actually calls the local airport every so many hours to get air density updates on the std. ballistics program he uses on an I-Pod Touch. He's attempted 5 long-range shots this year from 470-785, and missed once. The other 4 were successful 1-shot kills. Can u believe it? 3 of them were with reticle the other 1 (785'er) was turret (6.5-20 Leup. VH reticle). We just got the 785'er back from the tannery--GORGEOUS. Gonna look mighty nice on his wall.

I got a coyote on a dead run at 585 with my Savage 22-250 on the 3rd shot. 50 gr. Blitzking over 40.1 gns. of 4007 ssc. Not much skill involved but the luck of the irish must have been with me, and I'm asian! LOL!

Many years ago, I put together a .250 Savage on a M-70 Winchester using a heavy Douglas, air gage barrel . The rifling was 1-10" twist. The load was the 100 Gr. Speer hollow point and a huge amount of IMR-4350. The shot was from ridge to ridge, back in old West Virginia, on a Ground Hog that was just mindin his own business. Hold over was about 6' with a 200 yard zero. The scope was an 8X Lyman with fine cross hairs. This was LONG before laser range finders and such. With the B.C. of that Speer bullet, I imagine it would be only about 450yards, maybe 500 at a stretch. It sure was spectacular! The bullet never exited his back. Just a neat round hole, center chest. The barrel was stretched on that one, I reckon :D ;D. Greg

Well my longest shot was 1100 yards with a 25-06AI using 57G of 4831sc and a 100 grain smk I dident kill the PD but rolled him and he flailed around and then made it to the hole. I can't say if it killed him or not but I know I hit em.

My personal best so far (cold bore 1st shot kill) is 704 yards on a 280lb pig. 22mph crosswind (3/4 value). Rifle is a Savage 10 precision carbine in 308. egw 20 moa base, swfa 10x42 ss scope. shot prone with bipod. shooting black hills match 168's.

2880 yards....Bullet traveled 1523 yards into a quartering wind then curved back 1357 yards striking the p dog in the back.
223 40 gr nosler..bullet ran out of power at 2800 yards and was carried by the wind for the last 80 yards...JC Higgins rifle iron sights...the dog was only 166 yards away..
