I went to the range this morning to shoot with the retired monday morning F class shooters that are alot of fun to shoot with today. Last night I plucked out my Old FTR/ Tacticool of the safe and found some ammo I had in a box that I had loaded up... who knows how along ago. Normally i have a smll piece of paper in with the ammo so I know what Im shooting. No peice of paper and I can tell its not my normal 175gr Sierra Match king load. None the less I figure a couple of shots and ill test what ever is in that box.
Turns out its one of the best loads I have ever shot in that rifle. i thought it was my 175gr Berger BTLR load but I saved a couple of rounds and pulled it apart to find out its a 185gr Berger VLD at Mag length with 41.5gr of an unknown powder and primer. I was able to hold 2.970" elevation at 600 yards with it... Dropped one 9 in 13 shots on the 600 yard Fclass target. All with a bybod, rear bag and a 6.5X20 Leupold. As tight as I could hold it anyway.
The problem is what powder and primer wast that.... Ive been traveling for wrork alot and had this project set aside but somehow lost my info along the way??/ Dang I hate when that happens.... Finda great load only to find out I dont know what the heck it is... this is Murphy's law at its finest.
