What varmint bullet for 1-8" twist 6BRX?

Hi Guys...I currently shoot 95gr Berger VLD's in my 6BRX for varminting but want more splat factor so would like to try some lighter weight projectiles that will hold up & accurately shoot in my 1-8" twist. I were thinking the 87gr Vmax but there also seems to be a real following for the 75gr Vmax & even the 70gr Sierra Blitz king. What would would you suggest trying?

I shoot 75 grain Hornady VMax in my 8 twist with Varget powder. I am seating just off the lands and am getting great accuracy. Killed coyotes and a badger with these bullets with great results. I tweaked a load off the 6BR varmint load data page to get this. Hope this helps.

I would try all 3 to make sure they shoot accurately. I have a very similar set up in a 6BRX except mine was throated for the 105 Bergers. I found the 87 V-Max shot more consistent than the other lighter bullets I tried in the 70 grain range. Ya gotta hit em first before they'll explode. Good luck you certainly have a very capable round.

The 6brx sounds like just the ticket for the 75 grainers. They work real well in my .243.They go splat real nice. Not even a twitch after the impact. It is a real good way to put them down with no suffering to the animal while he is eating grass. That must really ruin there day. Just dont push them to fast so they dont disentegrate.LOL

I have worked up a loaded for 75 VMaxs in my 1:10 6BR. Shoot great but no field expereince yet. I built a 6mm Rem with a 1:12 as my field varmint gun. I drive the 75 Vmax to 3600 fps in a 28" barrel. The mist effect is tremendous. Great bullet for the price (if you can find them). Coyotes don't like it at all. Luck, Tim

Try beikirch's in east rochester ny.I dont have the number handy but will post later.

hey Fordnutter,

I use 75 V-Maxes on rabbits, hares and magpies....very explosive.

I have just started using 105 A-maxes - these are wicked, same targets - very explosive (I actually can't tell a difference between them and the V-max), the wind cheating is superb by comparison.

The big issue is getting hold of any Hornady projectiles. If you find a source let me know!

Once I run out of hornadys I will be trying the sierra 70 grn Blitz King (assuming I can't get anymore 105 A-maxes as these are my varmint round of choice now)...posts tend to indicate it is more accurate on average than the V-maxes and equally explosive and good for 500 odd yards.....although that 80 grn BT Nosler looks good.....

I run both the 75 V-max and 105 A-max out of 8tw 6Brs.

I tried several different bullets looking for the splat factor for my 6DASHER. The 87gr V-Max, the 70gr BK, and finally the 75gr V-Max.
The 75gr. V-Max delivers the most splat-factor along with great accuracy in my DASHER. I am loading the LAPUA brass with 34.8gr of IMR 8208XBR, pushed by a WOLF SRM primer.
If you would like Quickload and Quicktarget data for this load, just send me an e-mail and I will forward you the screen prints from this load.
DASHER:
28" Broughton barrel, 1-8tw
.271nk, 104 free-bore
Barnard 'P' action
Barnard trigger
Manners BR stock
Vais brake
Nightforce 12-42x56 BR scope with NP-2DD reticle

Thanks for all the usefull info guys. I've got some of the IMR8208 powder on hand & will see if it works ok with the 87gr Vmax. If not I might have to try the 80gr Ballistic tip or 75gr VMax that everyone speaks so fondly of.
