What upgrades to a donor Rem 700 action...?

Buying a ADL 700 from Academy to use as a donor action. What upgrades to the action - as far as parts go - do I need to do prior to rebarreling it. Does it need a new shroud, a heavier FP spring, different FP altogether to improve locktime ...?

Got a trigger for it already.

You advise and comments are welcome.... :)

You did not state what your rifle will be used for. I don't believe that a "cheap" Remington 700 action is worth doing too much to improve it. I square the face of the action, square the bolt lugs and call it good. I then add a Jewell trigger and a new barrel and go shooting.

However, if I am after all that I can get, then I go with a custom action and add the Jewell trigger and a new barrel ... It is the case that close to stock Savage and Remington actions can shoot well but the fit and finish of a custom action is far beyond what you end up with in a stock action. By the time you do all of the trueing and replace/shroud the bolt, you will have close to the cost of a custom action.

Thanks for the reply. I will have the action trued, free gratis, by my gunsmith friend so I am not worried about that machine work part of it. The gun will be a Silhouette HP rifle and, while I do want it to be accurate, benchrest action quality is not in the budget. The reason for the locktime part of the question is we shoot offhand and locktime can make a lot of difference with my big ole offhand wobble....

The answer I am looking for is only parts I can buy, if any, to add onto the late model action to improve safety, operational efficiency, ease of operation or... locktime. :)

If you're not sure what to do with it, you can always box it up and send it to me. ;D
If you are looking to speed lock time you can install one of the speed lock firing pin and spring assemblies. Brownells sells them. Think they have Tubb and maybe some others.

Just ordered a PTG brand setup....I got one of their bolts in a rimfire 40X and its a really nice product so I went with PTG instead of Tubb. 40% cheaper too.... Midway had it in stock and got to round up for the NRA..... ;)

1 Merlin,
Your post 2006 action's f-pin assy is fluted from Remington.
Time It.. Run it!

The aftermarket aluminum units will break.. in short order.

Have the action trued/re-barreled/stocked w/ pillars & bedding.
Install a Jewell trigger group.

Burn the barrel out by haveing FUN!
