What twist for a Mueller .22rf barrel

colder

Gold $$ Contributor
What’s the best twist/ groove for a finish length of 24-26” finish length?
Thanks, TP

I would go a wee bit faster. 15 1/2" Bartlein, Krieger, or RKS. Any of those three would even do a gain twist if you want; say 17"-151/2" over 24" barrel length. They are all cut rifled, so you can order dimensions to suit.

Great….none of which approach the performance of a Muller 16 twist day in, day out.
Get a Muller 4 and call it good.

I would agree your #1 barrel should be a 16 twist.
There seems to be certain velocity ammo under certain weather temperature conditions where a 15 twist or a 17 twist would perform better. I have been considering playing with a 16.5 to 15.5 gain twist. The idea that it might be better in cooler weather conditions. Possibly indoors.
As It would be my 4th barrel. Something to tinker with.

While there may be a few anecdotal reports that aren't proof of anything, is there any evidence for these ideas?

The Information comes my way by information pass down by legends of the sport who are no longer with us but passed on the information to current HOF member.
I had mentioned a few things I’ve seen in my shooting and what I thought was going on.
Some of it was yes that’s exactly what you are seeing. Some of it was not and I don’t really understand it. But It has all been done before with success under certain conditions. The reason why the 16 always comes off the winner. So the only way to know for sure is to do it for yourself. I think.
I have a barrel coming but It won’t be done till next spring. I have a good shooting 8 groove and a 4mi that is still unknown. I’ve been thinking about something to play with, experiment.

I think your answer would be, what is the current HOF shooter using? if they aren't shooting any of those twist then stick with the 16

Buttoned barrels cannot do a gain and if you get a cut barrel you’re behind the eight ball right from the start.
Had a Kreiger 8gr, currently supporting tomatoe plants in the garden.
