What to use to raise the comb height??

I am looking for items that we have around the house to use to raise the comb height?? I have used the A/C copper pipe closed cell black foam, but I do not have this any thinner than 3/8' thick. I am looking for something in the 1/8' to 1/4' thickness. I thought about that packing foam...it is probably around 1/8' thick. I know others have done this comb increase...just looking to hear what you have tried that works. Thanks in advance for any tips and ideas. the colonel.

Look at Cabella's, they have an inexpensive kit that consists of an elastic sock and cheekpiece shaped pads of different thicknesses. It is the way to go.

You can cobble things up or get the kit. I have already been down this road and the kit was the ticket.

Many - like maybe 35 - years ago, there was a leather pad device that attached to the buttstock with shoe laces around the bottom, and raised the cheek piece about 1/2'. I had one, but have no idea where it is now. Mostly these were installed on shotguns as preferred by trap shooters. Don't recall who made them, but it might have been Protecktor, the sand bag producer. I would give them a call.

Depends on what rifle. I've raised the combo on a 12 F/TR using some of the closed cell foam pieces from one of the slip-on cheekpiece kits, plus a liberal application of duct-tape. Looked redneck but it worked rather well ;)

More recently I've become a fan of Karsten's kydex saddle cheekpieces on my F/TR rifle - comes with a thin piece of material that is sort of like a mouse pad without the smooth fabric side to put on there if you don't like cold/hard cheekpieces.

The 3/8' stuff will easily compress. I use it under one of the inexpensive,$8.00?) Uncle Mike's buttstock sleeves with the cartridge loops on the side opposite your face.

Slide the foam under the sleeve so it rides the comb, with more on the face side than the cartridge loop side.,Cut the foam to length so it doesn't stick out from the sleeve and it won't look too redneck-ey...)

Once you figure out where your face and the pad fit the best, use electrical tape on the rearward end of the sleeve to hold it onto the stock. This prevents it from slipping towards the narrower, forward end, but still enables you to adjust the foam a bit if necessary.

Works for me, and doesn't look too bad on a VS style Rem 700.

This is the great idea place...
Alot of great ideas posted...
I will try a few...I am sure they all work...
Thanks in advance for all the great info...

Of my 5R, I took a rubber slip-joint pipe fitting that was 4' in diameter and 4' in length and cut a small slice out of it. Took the longer piece and duct taped it to the stock. The rubber fitting was 3/8' thick and won't compress. $5.00 fix. I also had a Eagle Butt Stock pack on it.

I have Uncle Mike`s sleeves on two F Class rifles. Use 1/4 inch foam under the sleeve. Early on the cartridge loops were getting some comments but the loops took a number of firsts and seconds in F,O) during the 2008 and 2009 Summer competitions.

Check out Brownell's. I believe it is made by Smith Enterprises and is available in 1/4', 3/8' & 1/2' heights and straps onto the comb. I use one on one of my varmint rigs and it works fine.
