What to rechamber to: 6BRX-6X47L-6SLR

I was pretty set on the 6BRX because of its accuracy and barrel life. And then someone mentioned the other two. It's primary use will be long range varmint out to 1000. I've heard good things about the 6X47 and the 6SLR but wonder what the barrel life would be and if they are inherently accurate like the BRX.

Any thoughts or opinions? Thanks in advance.

I shoot against the other two all the time but my 6SLR treats me very nicely when I do my part. Moderate loads push the 105/107's @ 3120-3150. Sub 1/4 minute @ 200yards and easily 1/2 min. @ 600 if winds are light or I do a good job of reading them. Probably a little tougher on the barrels than the other two due to the speeds and powders involved. Eric in DL

My 1000 yard groundhog (varmint) barrels are two 6XCs, a 6SLR, and a 243AI. All 8 twist and all shoot the 105 AMax.

I got my 6SLR in May and it has 447 rounds down the tube.

Other than some carbon issues in the chamber neck/throat area, I have been very pleased with it. Bartlein 5R 28" 8 twist, chambered by Preacher.

I also wouldn't rule out a 6XC. Dies & brass stocked by at least two suppliers.
6XC dies can be used for the 6SLR (screwed out .122"). Also, the 6SLR uses plain old 243 brass and is 98% formed with a F/L die.

waterfwlr,
I have been shooting a 6BRX for 10 years. There only a few rounds that run in the same class, 6BR, 6Dasher, 6BRDX, and other 6BR IMP's. They rule in 600 yd benchrest. I have been where you are. I have had 6mmAI 243AI, 6XC. Yes, they will run 1/2 moa at 600, that is 3", the 6BR's will run 1/4 moa, 1.5". They will shoot faster, burn more powder, and burn up barrels faster. but they will not out shoot them. I have shot 3 IBS 600yd enchrest records, one was LG group, 0.749" in 2007. I am a long range varmint hunter also. I now use a 6BR or 6BRX with a 87gr Vmax.

Thanks Nomad, im trying to figure out what the difference will be in barrel life between them.

Mark, I am going to be shooting the 87 v max as well. Can't get the 105 amax right now even if I wanted to. That 87 is nasty on pd's for sure
