What to rebarrel to?

Hey guys, some of you have probably seen my other posts about my 338 lapua issues. I've been considering just rebarreling to 338 lapua again but going with a 32" heavier contour barrel.

My rifle is a savage 110fcp. I really like this gun and cartridge alot. Really it does everything I need and way more. After all I don't do any comps or even hunting really. I just shoot for fun and what's fun is to do it from as far away as possible. I started thinking if I'm going to rebarrel I should at least consider other cartridges. I do have 220pcs of 1x fired brass, and about 600 of the 300gr SMK so it would be nice to utilize that stuff although I could always sell if I decide on something else.

My main requirement is that my action can handle it. Otherwise I'm pretty open at this point. I do have other medium size guns like a 284 and 308 so I'd like to stay in the "big magnum" arena here.

So let me hear your thoughts!

I would stay the same and get a brux barrel in the twist you need. This way you start out with a premium barrel and no second guessing.

If it were mine, I would return it to Savage hoping that they replace the barrel to solve the current issue first. If you still want to re-barrel it after that you can always sell the new barrel.

Couple good answers.

Jon,

That was kind of my thought as well. The cartridge like I said is more than enough for what I do. I like the idea of having a custom barrel instead of factory. That being said my factory savages usually do pretty and it would be foolish to not get a new barrel even if it is just to sell.
