What size spotter is used for 600 yard benchrest?

When shooting at a range with live pits, what size spotter is used for 600 yard benchrest? Is there a standard size? Im thinking 1" since the Xring is over 1". 1,3 and 5 inch are available at creedmore sports 3" seem way to big

Make you own with golf "T"'s and a 2" piece of corrugated foam packaging that is orange (or painted orange) on one side....you can glue it to the T or just stick it thru ....Roger

On windy days the larger spotters are handy and on calm days they get shot many times. At Sacramento we use golf tees glued into the disc of your choice and we get orange stickers for covering up the bullet holes in the discs.
If you have any color blind shooters they seem to prefer black spotters while everybody else prefers orange.

Gordy,

The only problem I had with the small spotter had nothing to do with the spotter itself. Maybe it was just me, but the blue stickers we were using to cover the bullet holes in the blue were about three shades darker than the blue on the target. After a couple of relays the sighter target (which was used all day) had a zillion 1" dark spots in the blue which made the 1" spotter tough to see. If you could get pasters that were a little lighter blue the 1" disks would be great.

Again, just my personal opinion I saw at my first 600 yard shoot...pure rookie. Maybe you can't even get lighter colered stickers.

Wish I could make the July matches...I had a blast at the first one.

Good luck,
Tod

The biggest problems with the sighter targets at 600 were that they were the used 1K sighter targets left over from Saturday's 1K match, so they already had a bazillion pasters on them before Sunday's match. There should have been two new 600 yard targets pasted on the sighter boards for the sighter period for the 600 yard match.

I'd say the 1" or 1.3" is plenty big for the spotter size. The three inchers were waaaaay too big. With a 42X Nightforce and a three power booster, the spotters looked like a dinner plate. Damn tough to get a perfect zero when it covers the whole ten ring and then some.........

For the guys shooting a 20X or 24X, or the mirage is unbearable, if they want the bigger spotter, the two way radios are in arm's reach.

That's right....it wasn't a 600 sighter target, it was the 1000 yarder from the day before, and it was loaded with spoters......I remember toward the end of the day aiming at the scoring ring numbers in the white because the center was so shot up.

Anyone know if there are lighter colored blue spoters that match the IBS targets?
