What size bushing do I need for a 338 Lapua Redding 'S' die?

Gents, I am getting ready to order some Redding dies for my 338 Lapua build. I've never owned or shot one before do I was hoping someone could tell me what size bushing I need to order with the dies? Thanks!

Might want to load a round with the brass and bullet,s) you intened to use and measure the OD of the neck. Even different lots of brass will be thinner/thicker than others.

Assuming that you are not going with a tightneck chambering, a lot depends upon the lot of brass that you actually get. The neck thickness on my lot, just got it 3 days ago) runs 0.0145 +/- 0.0005.

That having been said, when you double that amount, then add .338, it gives you 0.367. Subtract 0.002 for neck tension less some springback and you get 0.365. Granted its a truly rough way of guestimating what you need for a bushing, but its a place to start.

My review of the Redding bushing chart shows they go up to 0.368.

In my case I will very likely get 0.364, 0.365, 0.366. The extra $10.00 for each bushing is not a deal breaker and they last forever when sitting on your reloading bench.

Thanks, Jeff. That was what I was looking for. I will buy three of them in that range like you've stated and measure my brass Lapua brass once it arrives with the dies.

I purchased two bushings, a .364 and a .365.
That was based on neck dimensions.
The Redding site has a good explanation in the "Tech Talk" section on how to determine the proper bushing size.

BTW, my Redding catalog reads "bushings are available in .001 increments from .185 to .365". But this is a 2006 edition so who knows!
I just checked the web site and they now list sizes to .368 for the hardened steel and .365 for the Titanium nitride.... so who knows.
