What should I strive for?

I would like to know if this is a good group for a prone rifle?

The rifle is a REM700 6br with a lawton 1-8 at 28 '', I smithed myself.,Dad has a machine shop)

I am using 31 grains of varget under 105 berger VLD's, at 2885fps jammed on a very cold day!

I am blessed to have a place to shoot at this range. I just need to build a concrete bench so maybe; I can shoot at peidmont some day! also get a good rest!

I know it's not a great group but what is at 600 on your belly?

For 10 shots that is a good group in anyone's book, at 600 yards. At my club, a 2.5" 5-shot group will be a "top 3" at most of our 600-yard BENCH matches.

airbornemedic69, That is great shooting!

The 10 ring on the 600 yard F-Class target is 1/2 MOA or 3" and the 10 ring is 1 MOA, or 6".To shoot and win at F-Class, your gun should be at least capable of X-ring accuracy which your gun is.

Might want to try the Berger 105 BT bullet and jump it .010" and see what happens. I shoot that bullet and am getting under 2" at 600 when the winds are kind.

airbornemedic69,

That looks very good for a 10 shot group at 600. You did not say if you were using a rest or not, if not that is a Great group.

Are you looking to shoot 600 yd Benchrest in Peidmont, NC. If so yoiu will be ok on the group. Your 5 shot groups will run smaller, and off a bench even better. If conditions are good it will take 4- 5 shot group agg in the lows to place. The New Year match this month the winners shot, LG was 2.3" agg, HG was 1.9" agg. I shot a 2.6" agg in LG and was 6th.

The group was fired off of a sinclair bipod,The wide one)with a rear bag. On the ground. Nightforce 8x32-56 on 32 power. It was very cold that morning.,Long walk to check the target!) I was holding 1 mil low, so I could fire multi groups at the same target.

I need to get a few IBS targets just dont know where to get them, card board works, just need to use what I will shoot at a match.

I have 2 308's and when the barrels arrive they will all be 6br or BRX's. Lord their great!! I make freinds in Tenn. with 338 TRG 42's cringe when I shoot against them!

I need a front rest also, so I can shoot IBS,never even been to a match), just dont know which one to buy. Also all of my stocks are tactical type's so maybe I need to retrofit at least one of them for IBS. All this cost $$ so school come first for now!

I thank all of you for the input, may all of you be blessed with small groups this year.

Do you shoot at peidmont? I had a freind that did matches up there years ago named Scott W, It's been years since I've seen him. To many deployments! I think he helps run the range.

I have shot IBS 600 at Peidmont going on 5 years. Scott runs the line for the matches. He is over everything on the range, and Tommy Williams in match Dir. The matches start in March 2nd Sat each month. I think, they will hold the Nationals this year.

Come up and shoot with us.
