What should I be satisfied with

On my Weatherby Vanguard I have a 8"twist 26" Brux #4 contour BBL chambered in 22/250 (Smith trued up the action ) . Its bedded in a B&C medalist stock(Free Floated forearm ) . What size groups should I be satisfied with at 100 yds ?

More info needed . Scope ,chamber specs , bench , flags , ammo , hand load , factory , your experience , rounds thru tube , etc

Zeiss HD5 5x25x50mm, Standard chamber, Folding homemade bench, front and rear rabbit & bunny ear sandbags, using flags in NV desert , Handloads 55gr Nosler BT and 60gr V-Max and 69gr Sierra Match Kings shooting 40 years ,under 200 rnds thru bbl.

I've read post of other shooters with 8"twist shooting 55gr bullets just fine . I get under 1 MOA out in NV desert off a homemade fold up bench. Just thinking maybe I should have gone with a #5 contour bbl .

Try some heavier bergers or a goo match bullet , then settle for sierras or what , but go heavier . If your not going to shoot heavies get a 12-14 tw
If it's a Saami chamber how far are you seating your bullets and how did you determine your depth ?

Its all according to what they consider fine. A mismatched twist rate puts em downrange and satisfies most that settle for 1/2moa.

Reading posts and actually shooting it aren't even close. I once told a guy " I guarantee it to make a 1 hole "R" @ 300 yds . Out at the range I proved it , a one shot one hole"R" .
Anyway are you wanting a 3 ,5 or 10 shot group? Why such a fast twist if your shooting 55 gr , someone talk you into it?

Don't waste that barrel on what's on hand , new barrel get some good bullets or you'll never know .
Prairie dogs in MT is what I'm loading ammo for now. is a 64gr Berger Varmint bullet better than a Nosler 60gr BTor 60gr Vmax ? 200-400 yd shots . No I don't want to waste this bbl .

With 69 grain Sierra Match Kings I would only be happy with 5 shot groups in the .4s at the biggest and would expect groups in the .3s and some in the .2s. Howa makes a good action...you have a good stock...and an excellent barrel. Sounds like the weakest link might be the bench and bags. If it will only shoot just under an inch, I would be disappointed.

The light bullets could be an issue, but not always. My 9 twist .223 would shoot 55 gr bullets much better than 69 grain bullets.

The only way to determine what bullet , is to try , each gun is a law unto itself. Powder , case prep , bullet type , make, seating depth , primers are all variables that will be up to you to eliminate . Have a friend come to help if you think a load should shoot but isn't.

C'mon, Larry... you'll never be satisfied!;)
