What should FP springs look like when installed?

Should the spring be flatly coiled? Here is a picture of my BAT TR spring. When I lift the bolt handle while the bolt is in the action I hear a noise that sounds like a screen door is opening.

Remington 700 bolt (PTG) worked over by Alex Wheeler for comparison:

Really?!?! When you insert the firing pin assembly into the bolt body can you feel the spring dragging?
Yes but isn't that normal? I can't hold the FP assembly and bolt body perfectly still when I assemble them, so I can't stop them from dragging. I don't feel any dragging when rotating the FP assembly in the bolt body to lock it in place.

The sound is pretty faint and I can only hear it when cocking the FP. If it's already cocked and I lift the bolt, I don't hear the sound.

Good point. How about if you hold the bolt body vertical and the see if the firing pin assembly can slide into, (or out of), the bolt body by it's own weight.

Probably much ado about nothing, but I know anything and everything can be improved, no matter the brand or how much you paid for it. I plan on sending Alex Wheeler a message. He worked over a 700 for me and it's the best shooting gun I've ever owned. I've never had SDs and ES so consistently low.

I had the same sensation after replacing the FP spring on a Stiller Tac-30. I tried getting an OEM spring from Stiller, then PTG. No luck, so I tried a Gre-tan 700 spring. It was lighter wire but with more coils and significantly longer. The noise/ feel opening the bolt stressed me out, so I went back to the original. My pin is fluted. Couldn’t determine if it was dragging in the spring ID or if the spring OD was touching the bolt. It seemed like the former.

If anyone has info on Stiller compatible short action springs, I’m all ears.

I wonder if they are XP100 springs?

I don't know. Seems like a pretty simple question for the manufacturer, but they weren't able to sell me one. Sent me to PTG...
I just looked on wolf springs webpage but they don't list Stiller actions...too esoteric I guess. Would be nice the current owner would tell you, provided he even knows. Curtis Helton would know if the action was made when Stiller owned the biz.
