What scope to buy - NF Competition or Leupold 45X

GSPV - Correct me if I'm wrong. I may have worded it incorrectly. The reticule dot will not increase or decrease in size, however it will cover more of your aiming point as you dial back the power. Seems like that was a primary complaint of the 15-55X NF scopes. Often hard to use at max power, and when you backed the power down the .125 inch dot covered too much of the aiming point. Isn't that why the 2014 models all come with smaller dots?

I would guess there were some complaints or they would not have changed them for 2014 I seek accuracy under a .1 minute, so i guess some would be satisfied. The NXS was bullet proof except for the weight……. jim

The complaints on the 2013 model wasn't the glass quality, it was the turrets etc......As for the NXS, i thought mine was bullet proof as well until it quit tracking in the middle of the match at the Berger F Class Nationals in February of this year.....As for the accuracy comment, don't think for a minute F class shooters aren't seeking bench rest accuracy out of their rifles.

One day at 1000 i could see .338 bullet holes in the box of the guy beside me with a NXS, but thats one day. There is a little more than running up and down the line and looking in them and saying this one has the best glass and it is had when it set for someone else's eye. Best shoot them and then come back with a firm statement, I used them all and my decision and statement is based own use and what will shoot small over a year not looking through them on the line………. Jim, my 12-42 NXS gets cloudy on the top end. I assumed this was normal. Sounds like I should sent it in?

Alex, Yes send it in, They are the easiest to shoot out of them all and yes they break, they all do. I had a bad March then two really good ones. A good NF BR. was good but i kept getting hit in the eye. NF. comp ……..one match eye relief is too critical and not as bright as the NXS and it was gone. The NXS is the easiest to shoot period, they move good, long eye relief the only draw back is the weight. If i were you Alex i would get it repaired……… jim

You said to come back when i have a firm statement, well here it is.....I have shot all 3 in 1000 yard matches, Benchrest, NXS, and Comp scope and to my eyes the Comp scope is head and shoulders better glass than the other two......Everyone i have talked to at matches that have shot them all said the same thing, you are the only guy i have ever heard say that a NXS had better glass than a comp scope.......The first comp scope i ever shot was at Don Geraci's home on his personal range and we were shooting 300 yard targets in heavy mirage and i was shooting my NXS then grabbed his bench gun with the Comp scope on it and it was like night and day to me......To this day, Don still shoots that same scope and over 50 years of benchrest shooting he has shot every scope known to man and then some......Only thing i can figure is that you have the clearest NXS ever made and you got a lemon Comp scope.

Did i say it had better glass? No…… I said there is more than what you see to making the NXS a better scope. Short eye relief, critical eye box and less than 10 min per rev. super big dot on the 2013 NF comp. It is too slow for free recoil ……. I did some pretty fair shooting with a NXS and a March that don't have these problems…… JIm O'Hara

What you are saying is that the 2013 dots are too big. He only one that I have is the FCR. It is akin to the 2014 FCR-1. The dot is tiny. I can't speak to the other reticles.

I can tell you that a 1/8" dot is too large. 3/32 or even 1/16 work.

It has nothing to do with magnification in a second focal plane scope. The reticle is the reticle and does t change with magnification.

FFP is a different story.
