What Rear Bag for Scoville Stock?

I'm just getting back into BR after an 8 year break to shoot varmint and tactical rifles built on McMillan A-5 tactical stocks. These shot great on the bench with my Hart front rest or bipod and a Bald Eagle rear bag.

I've recently had a BAT B 6PPC stocked with a Scoville for short range BR. I shoot free recoil (BR rifles only) and have encountered a bit of hopping with the Scoville stock. Dwight Scott suggested that it is because I am riding on the bag instead of on the ears on the Bald Eagle with 3/8" spacing between ears. I have an Edgewood leather "Softy" with rabbit ears and 3/16" spacing coming from Sinclair so I will try that next.

What bag are you using with your Scoville stock and what is the ear spacing?

Thanks for any suggestions. critter_bill

Sounds like the bag you have with 3/8 spacing would be a solid choice. Is your rifle nose heavy? Is your front and rear bag to hard I wonder? Also there is nothing wrong with pinning your rifle with your shoulder. Many a good shooters do so. Give it a try this just might make your bag issues not so much of an issue. Good luck and as always feel free to call. Lee

Skeetlee, thanks for the tip. I will try pinning as I haven't done that since shooting a 30BR some years back. Henry Rivers was a big proponent of that style in score shooting. I think now that I was too quick to blame the Robertson stock that came on the Hall that I bought from you because, it too, was hopping in the same bag. So, I sold it and the rifle is being stocked by Terry Leonard. I figure it will track similar to the Scoville.

I have a couple of older Halls with a Lee Six and a Meredith stock which track just fine with my old set-up. I'm just struggling with the newer styled stocks.
