What powder scale?

What powder scale is everyone using mainly... for F class reloading?

Im ready to upgrade from a chargemaster to something more precise and that holds a zero, and if I over charge the pan its my fault..

If you dont mind spending a bit the A&D FX120i is very popular.
If your budget cant stetch that far a great low cost scale is this one sold by Bullets.com

Its not a magnetic force restoration like the A&D as it uses cheaper strain gauge technology but, for the money its a good scale.
If you like the old school gravity style a Lyman M5 or older US made RCBS/Ohaus 10-10 will work.

If you have working eyes, buy a Lyman M5. Ebay is a source. Set your RCBS to drop .3 of a grain low, dump that into the Lyman's pan and then trickle up with a manual trickles with a small straw in it. Fast and accurate.

My eyesight trick is to paint the top of the pointer white so you look down. Then zero using a calibrated weight. I use a 2 gram weight (30.86 grains). I zero the pointer with the scale at 30.8 and the white top just a smudge higher. Repeats to the granule of powder.

When I bought my FX120, Cambridge Scientific in Canada had the best deal, and the exchange rate improved it even more.

Look into Adam's AutoTrickler. It works with the FX120i. It is a nice rig. I think Cambridge even offers it.

I used the Omega for a long time before the auto trickler came out. It works, too.

I used Chargemaster with omega Trickler for a few years then upgraded to fx120i and Adams Auto Trickler, I have no regrets.. it's a pleasure to use, fast and accurate. I highly recommend.

Cheers Rushty

I just bought the auto trickler for the A&D 120i recently. This thing ain't no joke... Charged 20 cases within .02 under/over target weight in 4 minutes using 2 pans and the LEE powder dipper. The routine actually got a little too fast and I need to be very careful about double charging or skipping.
If you planned on using your chargemaster for the initial drop, don't. The little yellow dippers are much faster. I couldn't be happier with the time this thing saves!

A tuned beam scale is hard to beat both on price and accuracy. S Parker or Sparker is known for his work.

+ 1 for the S. Parker, if either are not available try to find a Lyman M 5 or or an RCBS 5-0-5 or 10-10 and get a few calibrated check weights, enough to equal the range of powder you are using, and of course a trickler.

I went with the FX-300i (FX-120i not available at the time). No difference except capacity. After getting the electrical problems ironed out in the house, (no fault of the scale) this weighs to exactly the same weight 100% of the time. When reloading, I use a test weight and put it in every 10-20 rounds just to be sure. It never drifts or varies as long as the environment is reasonable stable. Also use the Dandy/Omega trickler and may move up to the auto later. You can drop a single kernel of Varget with it. After using one, you'd never go back to the old style tricklers.

You want to look at cambridgeenviro.com. (Not Cambridge Scientific, which is something else completely.) Look for the FX-120i. It's $665 Canadian right now, which comes out to $530US or thereabouts. Lots of folks here, including me, purchased their FX-120i from them It got here inside a week.

Damn You.....;)
I'm going to send the "Dragon Lady" after YOU when the bill shows up at the end of the month. Got the scale w/trickler mated to the scale & test weight shipped for $812.........That saved me a good chunk of change over the Ohaus Adventurer Pro i was contemplating........And on & on it goooooooooooooooos.

Ah! I'm not afraid of a U-2; send it on. Not sure where it will be able to land however, those wings are pretty long. :)

I should add, beware of test weights from Canada. As you know, that country is further north from the continental US and as such because of the shape of our planet it is actually closer to the center of the Earth than say, Texas. Gravity works from center of mass to center of mass and as such what is certified at 100.000 grams in Canada is actually 99.971grams in Dallas and 99.968 in Houston. I don't know where you are located, but you need to keep that in mind. The department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development is headquartered in Ottawa at 45.5 degrees north. Knowing that the Earth is a squashed pear shape, you do the math to figure out the differential in gravity for your location, especially if you're on a mountain or something.

Just kidding.

Enjoy the setup and let us know how you like using it. I went out and bought a set of measuring spoons to do the initial dump, I use a 1/4tsp's worth of Varget at the start. I also find that I have to refill the trickler a couple of times when loading 100 rounds.
