What model 12 is this

I have two Savage 22-250's, the first is a model 12 FVSS with a 26" heavy barrel, the second is a lefty I screwed together with a 24" Shilen Select Match. Both are 1-12 twist and shoot Sierra 55 gr 1365's very well. One likes Varget and the other IMR4064. The 12 has a very nice bore and killed groundhogs out to 470 yards.

Try 60gr. Sierra's varmint in front of 23.5-24gr. IMR4895. Mine shoots tiny 5 shot groups.

I picked up this model 12 at the latest gun show. It’s a stainless bead finish deep flutes 223, 1:9 twist, 26” barrel

This was my first target rifle back in the day. Then is was Savage Model 12 223 BVSS. Great rifle!

Yep confirmed. With a 50gr vmax touching the lands is 2.215 it’s got a short throat

I’ve had numerous model 12 .223s over the years and a model 10 precision carbine that I still have that is the best shooting factory gun I’ve ever owned. And all but one shot fantastic with black hills 69 gr sierra matchking or federal gold medal match 69 gr. The black hills will shoot consistently under .5” at 100 yards out of a factory gun. When reloading the 73 gr Berger was even more impressive. I also did well with the older 75 gr Amax. And don’t rule out the 77 gr sierra matchking a few of them shot real well with it too.
