What length would be maximum OAL for 20VT barrel?

Ok, here my question to guys. I have a .20 Cal 1/12 Tw. 28" OAL Shilen SS blank .625" at muzzle, 1.25" Breach I wish to make up a 20 VT for Target and Squirrel bustin. What is the maximum length before you start loosing velocity to drag because of OAL.

Your replies are appreciated, for I know you have allready found this out from experience or others.

I have a .20 VT with a 12 twist at 22.5". Because of the small capacity case (18-20 gr.) I do not think you will gain any velocity or accuracy at any length beyond 24". Just a heavier gun to carry around. Just my 2 cents.

No question at all....Pac-Nor 3-groove, 12 twist SS Super Match at 24".

I know they made a run for the Saubier crew. I have one at Bob Green right now being built into a 20VT.

Rock creek has buttoned rifled 20 cal barrels. Very good barrels.

Well, targets and squirrel busting tells me your shooting off the bench and maybe high volume. Cut that barrel as long as you can, unless you never plan to ever recut the crown, rechamber, setback to increase barrel life, etc. The longer barrel will not lose enough speed for you to ever be able to tell unless your one of those that frets about 50 fps and micro-manages your chrony numbers. On the flip side that 2-3" you cut off that barrel makes a good fishing weight and does make it easier to lift out of the gun case and set on the bench. ;D

Rock Creek does make 20 cal button pulled barrels, just installed one in 20-222 and it's a dandy.
