What length to finish 6br

I have a 10 twist Krieger going on a 6br that is 28" blank length. I'll be shooting Berger 90 grain BT to 600 yards or less. Looking for what length you guys recommend to finish. I'm thinking 25-26" but wanted to see what y'all do. Thanks.

What are you going to use the rifle for? If the barrel is too long, then balance of the rifle is too far forward to comfortably shoot without a rest or other than from the prone position. Of course, balance can be adjusted by placing weight in the butt of the stock. So, a prone or a bench rifle can be as long as you want; a carry rifle needs to be shorter. I start at 24 inches for "field" rifles.

Thanks. Even though it is going in a "field" type Sentinel stock, it will be mostly used for prone shooting at the range. The butt end is pretty heavy on this stock and will be using a bipod.

One correction. The barrel blank is 29" and Krieger states it can be finished to 28". I think that is what I'll shoot for unless there is any benefit to shorter except handling. Thanks for the replies.

i finish all my 6 brs at least 28 inches, but i always run the 105s too for long shooting, nets me 2850-2875 on avg

jel-rod,,,use all of that bbl....if you shorten it there will come a day you wish you had more MV!!....and as said ,,you can re chamber a time or two and re crown,,,,,there is aprox. an inch on the muzzle end that is scrap,,,use all of the breach end,,,Roger

Unless you're trying to make weight for light gun or some other reason I'd go with the longer tube.
