What kind of Rem 40XBR is this?

I have a 40xbr and the bolt face is between a 223 and 308 size. I miked it at .444" across the bolt face. Is this a PPC bolt face? I called Remington and all they could tell me was year of manufacturing bc it is so old.

Yep, it's the right size for the PPC family.

It's not factory. It has a Sako extractor and the face has been bushed.

Barrel is long gone.

looks like a modified 700 bolt.
If I remember correctly The XBR bolts weren't jeweled

The bolt has same SN as action scribed into it.

Why thanks. That rifle is the reason I joined this forum. I had to step up my reloading game a bit with this tight neck 22BR. I'd never really done much with anything but the standard "off the shelf" chambers. It took me awhile around here to find even a couple of guys who knew what the BR cartridges were.

I'm not nearly done messing with this one. I haven't shot more than about two groups over an inch with it, but I also haven't shot any under .34". I've got more tricks to try, including the bullets that you sent me so long ago. Hope I don't burn the barrel up on squirrels before I get it shooting the way I want. jd

I'm surprised at that all of the ones i have seen and owned where bright.
I have a few that way. mine were circa 70's production.
