What kind of primer pocket is this?

These are sized 308 but I have not seen this before. I think they are 30-06 cases resized because the necks are 17 thous thick. Anyone familiar with this? Thanks20200417_193937.jpg

Look like WW2 vintage 30-06 cases, made by Remington Arms in 1940, 43 and 44. The primers were crimped in place common for military ammo.

Thanks Longtrain, that's the same info that I researched but what I was asking about was how the crimp was designed. The deep groove in the head so the crimp could be made. Modern heads are basically flat with the crimp. I didn't remember ever seeing that before and don't plan on reloading them. Thanks again

The RA stands for Remington Arms Bridge Port, CT and the number represents the year. If is had RA H that would be for Remington Arms Hoboken, NJ. The number is the year of manufacture.

As for the ring around the pocket, it could be for crimping as Dusty said, but I have never seen that config before.

The primer crimp is an older version of an annular crimp which is the most common on US ammo. Resizing a 30-06 case to 308 win will give you a thicker neck on the 308.
Guys would do that when 30-06 brass cost a lot less than 308. It usually worked with most 308 chambers.

As others stated military and crimped primers were used. De-crimp and uniform pockets, tumble/clean the brass, then resize and reload and use it. Might have to trim necks.
