What Kind of Forum is This?

Forgive me folks, I'm new. I decided to join this forum after searching online for Sierra loading data for various calibers. While doing so this forum popped up with everything that I could possibly imaging so I thought that this would be the place to come.

As I look around and read, it seems to be a very advanced forum. And I say that in a good way, but it's way over my head at this point. I don't even understand 75% of the terms that are written and/or spoke about. LOL

I'm just wondering, is this forum more of a bench rest shooting forum? And I use that term loosely to incorporate all of the competitions that are out there that some might enjoy.

Again, I'm gaining great information but I'm having some trouble following a lot of things on here so I'm just asking.

Chad

It is for exactly what the title says, Accurate Shooter. I know it can get overwhelming but do all the reading you can and ask questions along the way. You will get some of it figured out and then move on to the next. Sometimes there's a lot of BS to sort through, but again, the longer you're here the easier it is to recognize what you should listen to. Just when you think you have it all figured out, you'll click on something and find out that you still don't know it all.

I'm very new to reloading, only having done it for about 3-4 months. Ackleyman actually got ahold of me on another forum and took me under his wing to teach me several things.

Mainly I'm just a hunter who is doing some reloading and tweaking of ammo and having fun with it.

Welcome! Stick around and peruse the different forums a bit. You will pick up on the terminology pretty quickly. This forum is a fantastic place to learn about precision shooting/reloading.

I am not a competitive shooter.. I use the forum to divine information.. Shooting is shooting, whether hunting or competing.. There is a lot of great info here on making your handloads accurate, etc....

run, run away as fast as you can. right now you are just hunting, next you will be picking up a new gadget from the classifieds, then before too long you'll be building a new gun. all jokes aside, welcome and you can pretty much learn anything you want to here about accuracy and precision rifles.

I stopped shooting about 20 yrs ago and man have things changed especially 1000 yd shooting, I thought I knew a few things but now it's like starting over. Welcome to All you need to know it's right here

It's ACCURATE shooter. :)
Some things may not be germane to a new shooter or "may' be academic depending on your accuracy requirements.
A good read would be Tony Boyers book http://www.rifleaccuracybook.com/
Often times, the things discussed here are done so with understanding from all parties and goes over the head of new reloaders. Tony's book explains things in an easy reading format. Its well worth the $ spent.

I was going to do this recommendation but see I got beat to it. There is a LOT of info in this forum and you will soon see that not everyone agrees on some of the topics, no matter how small, but still a great source of guidance. I know for a fact that I am making better ammo for all my rifles.

When I started reloading I had no one to consult with and it was way before Al Gore invented the internet. I bought a Lyman reloading manual, a RCBS Rockchucker and the basic full length dies and tools and got after it with great results and personal satisfaction. Reading will teach you enough to get started....and that is when you will begin to learn. Don't be intimidated, all the information you need to begin with is in the basic reloading manuals.

"Not gonna lie, this is not where I saw this thread going when I saw the title"

Same here but I am glad a new member is on board and not bashful about asking questions.

Chad, lots of info available here and good natured debate. Welcome aboard.

I have loaded my own since 1972 and I could load all my hunting ammo on automatic mode. I never went for the, "fancy" stuff. Then I retired and found this #%$@&^ site. 3 semi-custom builds, $$$ of, "have too have" equipment later I found out how little I actually knew about hand loading. But, I wanted to learn, (still learning) more about my only vice so, I stuck around. As mentioned...There is some BS around but, filter out stuff and you will learn. At one time I belonged to 13 different forums. I have since whittled it down to this site and 2 others. This is just a great site!!

I whittled it down even further. I'm here. That's it!:D:D:D Now! If I could just stay out of the classifieds, I'd be OK!
MrBig1: Hang out here and read, read, read. You'll get it. I did.
